The service is warm and attentive, the décor is modern and luxurious yet comfortable, and innovative restaurants offer superb culinary experiences. Cruise ships are designed to keep everyone happy. You can attend lectures, indulge in some wine tasting, or hone your ‘strictly’ skills at a dance workshop. Alternatively, the pool awaits for a sun-kissed chill-out. Some ships screen films on deck; musical revues are West End standard; and an array of bars are primed to serve favourite tipples. As an increasing number of travellers are discovering, a cruise ship is a fine-tuned leisure machine, one that conjures up perfect getaways. Cruise lines are launching new and exciting itineraries to match demand, so it’s possible to sail in comfort to Alaska or Aruba, Valparaiso or Venice. Not everyone is a fan of air travel, so a no-fly cruise will take you to almost everywhere you fancy - even exotic, bucket-list destinations.
that’s a misnomer. Hotel-based holidays just cannot compete with a cruise ship that ups anchor and sails from place to place, allowing you to see several destinations on a single trip. There’s nothing quite like going to sleep in Barcelona and waking up in Monte Carlo.
