How do you think theatre enriches guest experience on board? Guests get to see shows they normally wouldn’t see, they get to step into this other world and then walk five seconds to the bar, and then three seconds to their cabin. It’s perfect. It’s entertainment right in front of you. That’s something that maybe stops people in the real world seeing shows. It’s all included here. You get to see incredible shows with so much talent. It’s amazing that NCL offers huge shows. What is your favourite food option on board? Honestly, I think my favourite is probably the sushi bar. There’s a sushi bar called Nama on board. It’s not one of the complimentary dining experiences, but it is always worth it. Everything is so fresh and they have a lovely lychee martini that I’ve probably had one too many of a few times. In your opinion, what do guests enjoy most in the shows? I think normally people really enjoy either the big musical numbers where everyone’s doing turns and the costumes are sparkling and someone’s belting notes out for a real showstopper moment. Or, it’s the touching moments. It’s really moving when you see people cry. Specifically in The Donna Summer Musical there’s this moment where the oldest version of Donna Summer is singing and it’s this huge song. She sits there on a piano and she’s writing her
when you go and see a massive disco show with sparkly costumes. And they only have to wait a matter of moments before the very chairs that they were just sitting on disappear! They get to enter the same venue and continue that experience. I think it’s so smart. People watch the transformation of the theatre too because it is an exciting thing to watch as well, just to see the mechanics of it all. What is your favourite part of the job? The bit I love the most is the audience reaction. I get so moved and excited by people who come up to me and say things like, that’s made my day, or my week. Also, when I go to see a show, I want to feel something. To make people feel something is a gift. Dancing can make people smile or acting can make people cry, and I think it’s incredible. We really do feel the audience as much as they feel us. Has anything surprised you about this industry? The most surprising thing is how happy and how relaxed I am when I am in a job. I’m doing what I love. I’m getting paid for it. How am I getting dressed up in a costume and a wig and putting on makeup and doing pirouettes on the stage and singing some of my favourite songs? That is the most surprising thing, sometimes I have a pinch myself. Like wow, this is incredible, my life is a dream.
last song. She does this huge note at the end and the standing ovations will last so long it will be a good minute of people just up on their feet screaming and cheering and everything and it’s crazy. It is really moving to see that.
Can you tell us about your upcoming plans?
In 2024, I will be joining the 2.0 cast of Beetlejuice, on Norwegian Viva. It’s not your classic show that you’d normally see on ships. I was so delighted when I saw it was coming to NCL’s newest ship. It’s a cult classic. I think it’s going to drive so many different clientele onto the ship, I think a lot of people will come to the ship based on the show as it’s so incredible and it’s not out in the UK.
Who is your biggest fan? My mum. She is my biggest fan. She really does support me in every way possible and she has since I was so young. I’m pretty sure she has told everyone in the universe that will listen about my accomplishments. Even if I became the biggest movie star on the planet, I think that she will always, always be my biggest fan and supporter.
