Liwa Date Festival and Auction

مهرجان ومزاد ليوا للتمور

The second edition of the Liwa Dates Festival and Auction will run from 21 to 30 September in Liwa City, Al Dhafra Region, in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region. Organized by the Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee, and Emirates Heritage Club, the Festival aims primarily to transfer knowledge and exchange expertise between farmers to grow the best and finest types of palms and fruits. It falls within the heritage and agricultural events and activities held nationwide to promote the Emirati heritage, support indigenous products and enhance the nation›s food security system. The Liwa Date Festival and Auction serves as a platform specialized in marketing and selling locally grown species of dates as well as date products widely cultivated across the world with the aim of exchanging expertise between farmers from all over the world on the latest agriculture methods in date palm cropping and cultivation and on how to grow and care for date palm trees.

برعاية ســمو الشــيخ حمــدان بن زايــد آل نهيــان ممثــل الحاكــم يف منطقة الظفرة، تنظــم لجنة إدارة املهرجانــات والربامج الثقافيــة والرتاثية بأبوظبي ونادي تــراث اإلمــارات الــدورة الثانية مــن مهرجان ومــزاد ليــوا للتمور، يف مدينة ليوا الحاضنة للمهرجان ملكانتها التاريخية ونشــاطها الزراعي املُزدهر ووفــرة واحاتها بأجود أنــواع النخيل. ويتضمن مهرجان ومــزاد ليوا للتمور العديد من الفعاليات واألنشــطة الرتاثية لتعزيز الجهود املبذولة يف دعم القطاع الزراعي وصناعة التمور، ويســعى أن يكون مــن أهم املحطــات عىل خارطــة املهرجانــات الرتاثيــة والفعاليات الدوليــة يف تشــجيع قطاعــي إنتــاج وتصنيــع التمــور وعــرض أجــود أصناف التمور للمســاهمة يف تحقيق اســ اتيجية األمن الغذايئ، إىل جانب تشجيع ومنتجــي التمــور لتســويق إنتاجهم والحصــول عىل أجــود أنواع املزارعــ التمــور وتصنيعهــا و تغليفهــا وتطويــر مخرجاتها وتبــادل الخــ ات واألبحاث مبجــال النخيل والزراعــة لالرتقاء بهــذا القطاع املهــم والحيوي.

أهداف املهرجان

خلق سوق ومنصة متخصصة لتحفيز أصحاب املزارع لتسويق التمور اإلماراتية. • الحفاظ عىل املوروث الثقايف والزراعي يف الدولة واالحتفاء به. • تنظيم مهرجان عاملي للتمور يضع منطقة الظفرة عىل خارطة السياحة العاملية. • املزارعني مــن كافــة دول العامل حــول أســاليب الزراعــة الحديثة تبــادل الخــ ات بــ • والعنايــة بشــجرة النخيل.

Festival’s Objectives

• Tapping into markets and establishing a specialized platform to motivate farm owners to promote Emirati dates. • Preserving and celebrating the country’s cultural and agricultural heritage. • Organizing an international festival for dates that puts Al Dhafra region on the world tourism map. • Transfer of knowledge and exchange of expertise between farmers from all over the world on modern farming methods and palm tree care.

• The dates are from the local production of the United Arab Emirates for the year 2023. • The dates must be produced by the participant’s own farm, with the documents of ownership of the farmland to be submitted. • Everyone has the right to participate in two categories of the competition, in addition to the Elite Round, which is available to all. • The items set for the Elite Round may not be less than five types. • The participants are to comply with the jury’s decisions. • Participants must swear the oath relevant to their own category. • Dates should be presented according to the date set for each category from 8:00 am through 12:00 pm. No entries may be accepted after the specified time has elapsed. • The Organizing Committee is entitled to act in regards to the participated dates. • The dates that don’t win in the competition are to participate in the auction with their values to be availed by their respective participants. رشوط وأحكام املسابقة

.2023 أن يكون التمر من اإلنتاج املحيل لدولة اإلمارات العربية املتحدة لعام • أن يكــون التمــر من إنتــاج مزرعة املشــارك الخاصة مــع إبراز مســتندات ملكية • األرض الزراعية. لــكل فرد الحــق باملشــاركة بفئتني مــن فئات املســابقة، باإلضافة إىل شــوط • النخبة املتــاح للجميع. أال تقــل األصنــاف املراد املشــاركة بها يف شــوط النخبــة للتمور عن خمســة • أصناف. قبول املشارك بقرارات لجنة التحكيم. • أداء القسم الخاص بالشوط املراد املشاركة به. • صباحاً 8:00 تســليم املشــاركات حســب التواريخ املحددة لكل فئة من الســاعة • مســاءً، ولن تقبل أية مشــاركات بعد انقضــاء الوقت املحدد. 12:00 ولغايــة تعود أحقية الترصف بالتمور املشارك بها لـ اللجنة املنظمة. • التمــور التــي مل تحصــل عىل مركــز يف أي شــوط يتــم إدخالهــا يف املزاد، • وتكــون قيمتهــا من حق املشــارك.

• Participation in more than one category within the categories of individual runs is not allowed. • The quantity to participate in the individual runs may not be less than 100 kg per type. • The quantity to participate in the Elite Round may not be less than 25 kg per type and is to be of commercial nature. • Participating dates must be free from all insect infestations. • The dates must be free from visible defects. • Dates should not have an unnatural smell or taste or be tainted with metallic or sandy traces such as scars and others. • The dates should be of an appropriate size. • They must be free from pesticide and chemical fertilizer residues, as the winning production will be tested in the laboratory. • Dates participating in all categories of the competition should be presented to the committee in boxes designated for the competition. • All participants should comply with the committee’s decisions. The most beloved event at the heart of date lovers from all corners of the world, and aims to highlight Emirati dates and their quality to all visitors interested in the finest types of dates.

الحــدث األحــب إىل قلب عشــاق التمــور من جميــع أقطاب العــامل، ويهدف بأجود وأفخر إىل إبــراز التمور اإلماراتيــة وجودتها لكافــة الزوار املهتمــ أنــواع التمور. آلية املزايدة: أوالً: ملء االستامرة الخاصة باملشارك من خالل التطبيق الخاص باملهرجان. • اســتالم الصناديــق املخصصــة للتمــور وتحديد النوعيــة والكميــة املراد • إدخالهــا يف املزاد. يقــوم املكتــب مبعاينــة وفحــص التمور من خــ ل لجنــة مختصــة لتصبح • جاهــزة للعــرض واملزايدة. 12:00 صباحا ولغايــة 8:00 تســليم املشــاركات يف املــزاد مــن الســاعة • ظهــراً، ولــن تقبل أيــة مشــاركات بعد انقضــاء الوقــت املحدد. ثانياً: املزاد الرئيــي الذي يقام عىل منصــة خاصة للمزايــدة والذي يتنافس • من خالله املزايــدون للحصول عىل التمــور املعروضة. تبدأ املزاودة عىل األصناف بأسعار محددة من قبل لجنة املزاد. • مساءً. 5:00 يبدأ املزاد الساعة • % من قيمة املزايدة لصالح اللجنة املنطمة للمزاد. 10 يتم اقتطاع •

Auction Mechanism First:

• Fill in the participation form on the Festival's Mobile Application. • Receive the boxes designated for dates and specify the type and quantity to participate in the auction. • The office inspects and examines the dates through a specialized committee to make them ready for display and auction. • Submission of entries in the auction starts from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and no entries will be accepted after the specified time has elapsed. Second: • The main auction is held on a dedicated platform for bidding, through which bidders compete to get the offered dates. • Bidding begins at prices set by the auction committee. • The auction starts from 5:00 pm. • The Organizing Committee shall receive 10 percent commission of the auctioned dates value.

The Dates Packaging Competition features the best techniques of canning and packaging dates in a manner that considers the product quality and health & safety considerations. It aims to educate producers and manufacturers on the latest packaging techniques and ultimately helps them tap new markets.

تعتمد مســابقة تغليف التمور عىل أفضل وســائل وأســاليب تعليــب وتغليف التمــور بشــكل يراعي جــودة املنتج وســ مته الصحيــة، ويهــدف إىل تطوير وتثقيف املنتجني و املصنعني بأحدث وســائل التغليــف، مام يؤدي يف نهاية األمر إىل خلق أســواق جديــدة للتمور وتعزيز خطــط الرتويج لصناعــة التمور ومشتقاتها.

First Category: Dates packaging competition without additives.

الفئة األوىل: مسابقة تغليف التمور بدون إضافات

Second Category: Filled Dates Packaging Competition (Nuts, Fruits, Chocolate, etc).

الفئة الثانية: مســابقة تغليف التمور املحشــوة باملكــرات، الفواكه، الشــوكوالته، وغريها مــن املــواد الطبيعية

Terms & Conditions

الرشوط واألحكام

• Dates should be matching with their respective category of participation in terms of shape, color, taste and ripeness. • They should be of the same color, shape, and matching in size. • Dates must be free of live insect pests. • Dates must be free of phenotypic defects and external distortions. • The quantity to participate in the auction may not be less than 22 packages, weighing 2 kg per package. • Dates should be refrigerated and not frozen. • The dates should be from the producers or manufacturers (whether it is a commercial license or a website).

A competition aimed at stimulating local production of honey and supporting producers and owners of honey factories, in addition to giving an opportunity for festival’s visitors, including UAE citizens, residents and tourists, to see and learn about local honey production and its varieties. Participation Conditions for the Liquid Honey Competition • Submission of 2 kg of liquid honey divided into two samples of the same specifications and quality of honey (a sample for display and a sample for chemical analysis). • Packages should be in smooth glass with a metal lid. • Packages must be cylindrical in shape. • Do not stick any tag or put any distinctive mark on the packages. • Packages, including their lids must be clean. • Packages must be fully filled, leaving a vertical space for the honey not to touch the lid. • Honey must not be crystallized and be free from defects and impu - rities, as well as homogeneous and of natural color.

Through this competition, the Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi, seeks to shed light on the heritage of the Emirates with a special emphasis on date palms by featuring visual stories that highlight the various aspects of the UAE wild and marine life, in addition to focusing on the rich legacy left by the founding fathers, including the natural marine and terrestrial landscapes and eye-catching sights of date palms. The award is divided into two categories: Category 1: Palm Trees & Dates: Images in this category should reflect the human bonds with date palms. Amateur and professional photographers from all over the world are welcome to participate in this category, to highlight the economic, environmental and heritage aspects of date palms. Category 2: Wild & Marine Life in Al Dhafra: Al Dhafra boasts charming sand dunes, beautiful beaches and diverse environment, where birds, especially the Arabian Oryx,

Terms of Participation in the Photography Competition • Uploading photos via “WeTransfer” and emailing them to: submissions @turathuna.ae. • Entries will be accepted starting from 8:00 am on August 24, 2023, until 12:00 midnight on September 12, 2023, and no entries will be accepted after the specified time has elapsed. • You can submit a series of photos addressing the competition’s theme. • One participation is limited to a minimum of 5 images, and a maximum of 10 images. • The submitted images must be in JPEG or JPG format, with high quality and accuracy, and the image size should not be less than 5 MB. The longest side of the image should not be less than 2000 pixels and the quality should not be less than 300 dpi, and the images must be publishable. • The original image must be uploaded. • Pictures submitted must not contain any logos, signatures, names, frames, borders, symbols, or any signs, date, time or other marks added by the participant. • Sophisticated editing techniques used to add optical illusions, or any image manipulation are prohibited.

If you are an amateur or professional painter or belong to any of the different schools of drawing, you certainly seek to reach the largest number of people with your art and creativity to express your thoughts and feelings through the art school you belong to. The drawing competition is organized by the Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee in support of all artists living in the UAE to participate using oil or acrylic colors during the Liwa Dates Festival and Auction 2023 in the Al Dhafra region to shed extensive light on the multi-faceted aspects of the UAE heritage, including the marine and terrestrial landscapes and the eye-catching date palm plantations.

أو تنتمي ألي مدرســة مــن مدارس إذا كنــت من الرســامني الهــواة أو املحرتفــ الرســم املختلفــة، بالتأكيد تســعى للوصــول بفنك وإبداعــك ألكرب عدد مــن الناس لتعرب عــن أفكارك ومشــاعرك مــن خالل املدرســة الفنيــة التي تنتمــي إليها. تأيت مســابقة الرســم دعام من لجنة إدارة املهرجانات والربامــج الثقافية والرتاثية بأبوظبي لكافة الفنانني بالدولة ليشــاركوا بألوانهــم الزيتية أو االكريلك وذلك خالل يف منطقة الظفرة . 2023 مهرجان ومزاد ليوا للتمــور وتحــرص اللجنــة من خــ ل هذه املســابقة إىل تســليط الضــوء عىل تــراث اإلمارات ونخلــة التمر بتجســيد قصصــا مرئية مرســومة باأللــوان الزيتيــة أو ألــوان االكريلك تعكــس مختلف تــراث اإلمــارات يف الحيــاة الربية والبحريــة إىل جانــب الرتكيز عىل تراث اآلبــاء واألجداد واملناظــر الطبيعية يف البحــر والرب، ونخلة التمــر التي تخطف األبصــار بتميز تصميمهــا ومثارها .

The award is divided into two categories: Category 1: Palm Trees & Dates Paintings in this category should reflect human bonds with the date palm tree and the diversity of its fruits and colors, palm plantations, heritage industries of palm fronds, etc., while highlighting the natural beauty and charm of date palm. Category 2: Wild & Marine Life in Al Dhafra Al Dhafra boasts charming sand dunes, beautiful beaches and diverse environment, where birds, especially the Arabian Oryx, deer, camels and horses in the Liwa dunes hide around water springs, plants and fossils, and the sea that abounds in coral reefs, fishing stories and sailing boat races. The Region is also noted for the festivals that utilize its unmatched charm and marine heritage.

وتقسم الجائزة إىل فئتني الفئة األوىل: النخلة والتمور

لوحــات فنيــة تجســد عالقة اإلنســان بشــجرة نخلة التمــر وتنــوع مثارهــا وألوانها ومــزارع النخيــل والصناعــات الرتاثيــة من ســعف النخيل وغــ ذلك، وإبــراز الجامل والبيئــة الطبيعيــة والرتاثية لنخيــل التمور . الفئة الثانية: الحياة الربية والبحرية يف الظفرة بكثبانها الرميلة الســاحرة وبشــواطئها الجميلــة و بيئتها الطبيعيــة املتنوعة حيث الطيور وعىل رأســها الصقور واملهــا العريب والغزالن واالبــل والخيول يف كثبان ليوا التي تخفــي حولها ينابيع امليــاه والنباتات واألحافري.. والبحــر وما يزخر به من شــعاب مرجانية وقصص الصيد وســباقات القوارب الرشاعية، وما تزخر به مهرجانات منطقة الظفرة بصور مرئية بســحر الــ اث الربي والبحري.

Contest Terms & Conditions • Artworks will be accepted from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm on September 12, 2023, to September 18, 2023 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at Al Raha Beach Theatre, and no entries will be submitted after the specified time will be accepted. • The artist can participate with one painting for each of the competition theme. • All painting techniques are allowed to participate, however, it has to belong to the realistic school and style, provided that they are in oil or acrylic colors unless they include replicas or copies. • Paintings must be well packaged to ensure safety during transportation, and the committee is not responsible for any damage resulting from bad packaging. • Any painting that represents or contains any inappropriate or offensive content, including violence and/or any other content deemed inconsistent with the public morals, customs, religious and cultural traditions of the United Arab Emirates will be disqualified. • The winning paintings will become the property of the Organizing Committee and the winning artists may waive their rights under the Competition’s terms and conditions. • A committee of professional artists will sort and judge the participating paintings, and the winning paintings will be announced on September 30, 2023 • The painting should be properly packaged and wrapped to avoid any damage during transportation, and The Committee is not responsible for any damage with poorly packaged paintings.

رشوط املسابقة ظهراً 4:00 صباحــا وحتــى 9:00 ســيتم قبول األعــ ل الفنية بــدءًا من الســاعة • صباحــا وحتى 9:00 مــن الســاعة 2023 ســبتمرب 18 إىل 2023 ســبتمرب 12 بتاريــخ ظهرا يف مرسح شــاطئ الراحــة، لن تقبل أية مشــاركات يتم تقدميها بعد 4:00 الوقــت املحدد. ميكن للفنان املشاركة بلوحة فنية واحدة فقط لكل محور من املسابقة. • كافة تقنيات الرســم مؤهلة، عىل أن تنتمي للمدرسة الواقعية، وعىل أن تكون • باأللوان الزيتيــة أو االكريلك ما مل تتضمن نســخ متامثلة أو منقولة. ســيتم اســتبعاد أية لوحة متثّــل أو تتضمّن أي محتوى غري مناســب أو مســيئ • للثقافــة أو الدين مبــا يف ذلك العنــف و/أو أي محتوى آخر يُعتــ غري متوافق مــع األخالق العامة والعادات والتقاليد الدينيــة والثقافية لدولة اإلمارات العربية املتحدة. اللوحات الفائزة تصبح ملك اللجنة ويتنازل الفنان عن حقوقه كاملة. • تقوم لجنة مــن فنانني محرتفني بفــرز وتحكيم اللوحات املشــاركة ويتم اإلعالن • 2023 ســبتمرب 30 عن اللوحــات الفائزة بتاريخ يجــب أن تكون اللوحــات مغلفة بشــكل جيــد لحاميتها أثنــاء النقــل, واللجنة غري • مســؤولة عــن أي تلف يف حالــة عــدم تغليفها.

القرية األردنية للتمور

• A platform showcasing Jordanian dates for the public and a market to purchase authentic Jordanian dates. • The design of the village is inspired by the heritage landmarks of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and it is a bridge connecting the farmers and companies owners to promote and market the economy of dates.

ســاحة معــدة خصيصا تعــرض من خاللهــا التمــور األردنية امــام الجمهور • وتعترب منفذ البيــع املبارش لزوار املهرجــان والراغبني باقتنــاء التمر األردين. يعتمد تصميم الســاحة عىل املعامل األثرية للمملكة األردنية الهاشــمية • وتفــر منصة تجمــع املزارعني واصحاب الــ كات بهدف الدعم التســويقي واالقتصــادي املرتبط بالتمور.
