members of the organization and to date, the Southeastern Province is moving in that forward- thinking direction. It is my desire that we continue being innovators and leaders in the Fraternity. The soil of the Southeastern Province is fertile, our brothers are working diligently in the field of Kappaland, and this fruitful land will continue to spring forth greatness and transformation. We have an audacious agenda! The 27th Administration has set a goal of operating in an inclusive manner while maximizing its ability to identify talented brothers who will push forward new ideas and processes that will make us better while capitalizing on the foundation that has brought us this far. To that end, the theme “This Belongs to Us” has become what we use to move the needle to the next level of leadership in the province. Political leader and early ignitor of the Civil Rights Movement, Marcus Mosiah Garvey articulated these words, “God and Nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be.” Although Garvey was speaking to oppressed people, these words still apply to us today. By our creation at the hand of the Almighty, we are who we are, already endowed with every necessary attribute for greatness. It is with this genius that we already have, we make ourselves what we want to be. That internal genius and pre-disposed greatness, my brothers, is what the Southeastern Province needs as we move to the next level! Each of us already has it; it is precious. You can’t buy it in a store. It cannot be placed in a bottle, because it would not fit anyway. The price of our genius is unknown because it is priceless. God gave it to each of us, and the Southern Province needs it, as we work together, for truly, This Belongs to Us. As we set this as our platform, we’ve begun the evaluation of all our operations and divisions. The 27th Administration has a new Administrative Team led by Dr. Leo Brown, Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Willie Hopkins. Brother Benny Harris serves as the Province Polemarch’s assistant.
This Administration has a platform built around rebranding who we are among each other and targeting the reconnection with Brothers and chapters in the areas in which we serve. We realize the importance of membership development, and in saying this, we are creating new content to assist new Polemarchs led by the 27th Administration Team. We have already begun the process of using monthly training calls for those individuals to do so. Secondly, under the leadership of Brother Frank Thomas as Chairman of Advisors, the Advisors’ monthly calls have now become training opportunities for all appointed brothers in that role, as we identified gaps in connectivity with undergraduates. We will look at attendance as a gauge for retaining brothers in those roles. Accountability is important as we have identified this area as one of concern. We have continued to set the bar higher in our ability to manage the finances of the province by our Finance Committee which includes brothers who are knowledgeable in the area of contract negotiation, forecasting, cash flow projections and finance checks and balances which has allowed us and an entity to operate year after year in the black with up to $1.06 Million in total assets which includes restricted funds. The ability to secure outside funds is another positive piece to the growth of this administration. We’ve been able to secure sponsorships and grants in the amount of $17,000 by participating in the Good Health Wins Grand chapter Initiative, where we have secured $7000. In addition, we have also received $10,000 from Vertex Pharmaceuticals. We would like to thank Brother Antonio J. Martez for leading the way with our goal to bring in corporate sponsorships and grants.
