We’ve also taken the approach of looking deeply into resurrecting inactive undergraduate chapters. Kappa Alpha Psi is an undergraduate fraternity, and the only way to keep us vital and thriving is to ensure our undergraduate chapters are active and well-represented on college campuses. Thus, we created the SEP Undergraduate Task Force. This group was tasked with the review and creation of re-engagement plans to reinstate chapters at the collegiate level. I want to personally thank the group of brothers who have keen insight into working with university leaders and undergraduate brothers. I extend my sincere gratitude to Brothers Brian Golson, Province Director of Undergraduate Affairs, Delmar L. Whittington, II, Dr. Tyrone Smiley, and Frank Thomas for a job well done in working with the first of many groups, the Clark - Atlanta Chapter, the Gamma Kappa of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. We believe now that we have the blueprint to use across the province to properly foster relationships with the institutions at which we are located, AND to increase the sustainability of those chapters all governed by Grand Board Policy. Thank you, Good Brothers for your tireless effort. We look forward to the work you all will do in the future. This administration is dedicated to increasing communicatio,n and in doing so, transparency is key. We will have more conversations with the leadership to engage members in hopes that we find out where our pain points are. This piece requires us to identify how we operate as a region. Because of this, we have asked Brother Kelly Bennett to look deeply at all of our processes and make recommendations on how we can operate effectively and efficiently. Brother Bennett was named our Director of Organizational Effectiveness and with his experience with organizational growth and development, he will align our strategic plan with the Grand Chapter’s National initiative.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Brother Bennett for his willingness to take on this task. We’ve added touchpoints with quarterly reports in addition to the Southeastern Khronicle and the implementation of Town Hall meetings to truly capture the pulse of the province. Our first virtual Town Hall was held in January. Thank you, brothers, for your attendance, submitting questions, and providing your feedback on the Town Hall. We have considered your feedback and have planned some adjustments that you will see in the next Town Hall to be held in the coming months. Please watch your emails for the date and logistics, and plan to attend. I want to hear from you! Under this administration, there are still some challenges we face. The Southeastern Province is now dedicated to addressing Mental Health. The Southeastern Province has been the unfortunate beneficiary of the burning effects of unaddressed mental health and wellness concerns. The Health and Wellness committee, led by Brother Antonio Martez, has begun the work of working closely with the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee to explore ways to work with individuals who suffer in silence. We are our brothers' keepers. There continue to be other administrative matters that we have to handle. We have chapters that are under the statutory minimum. I encourage chapters that find themselves in that situation to participate in the MTA process and move to a sustainable status again. Further, we still have chapters and individuals that we have to discipline. This administration is targeting how we handle processes. If we are to have a fraternity that outlasts us, it is necessary to follow established processes, policies, and procedures that are in place to guide and protect us. I firmly believe that we will get to a place of reconciliation and sustainability with the implementation of the strategic plan, which includes actionable items that support building and cultivating brotherhood and fulfilling our required administrative duties.
