The Khronicle: 27th Administration Edition

Key Issues: Hazing, Property Damage, and Social Liability Among the top priorities in Risk Management are eliminating hazing, mitigating property damage, and understanding social liability: Hazing remains a zero-tolerance issue. Any practice that degrades, endangers, or humiliates members is not only a violation of fraternity policy but also a threat to brotherhood itself. Property damage from reckless behavior can carry financial consequences and erode relationships with campuses and host venues. Social liability —a more nuanced and often overlooked risk—relates to the chapter’s legal and reputational exposure during social events, especially where alcohol, guests, and underage individuals are involved. Education, vigilance, and compliance are essential tools in addressing these risks. The Role of Education and Leadership Education is the frontline defense in Risk Management. The goal is not just to police behavior but to instill knowledge and foster decision-making that protects everyone involved. Brother Michael Myers has been instrumental in elevating the Province’s risk prevention efforts. Through his close collaboration with the Director of Risk Prevention and Education at International Headquarters, Brother Myers has helped align chapter practices with the fraternity’s national expectations and standards. His leadership has brought consistency, clarity, and credibility to the Province’s Risk Management program. From leading training sessions to supporting chapters through challenging situations, Brother Myers exemplifies how proactive engagement and servant leadership can reinforce the values of Kappa Alpha Psi. A Continuous Effort Risk Management is not a one-time conversation—it is a continuous, evolving process. As societal norms shift and legal landscapes change, the Southeastern Province remains committed to educating chapters on emerging risks and reinforcing a brotherhood that is safe, respectful, and honorable. By prioritizing education and accountability, the Southeastern Province continues to set a standard for responsible fraternity operations and leadership.
