SOUTHEASTERN PROVINCE POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE: CHAMPIONING LEGISLATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT By A. Christopher Lyons

Supporting Chapters and Communities

In a world where civic engagement and legislative advocacy are vital to advancing our organization’s mission, the Southeastern Province Political Action Committee (PAC) —led by Brother Christopher Lyons—serves as a critical voice and resource for supporting the interests of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. This committee’s work underscores the fraternity’s commitment to shaping legislation that benefits not only our brotherhood but also the communities we serve. The Mission and Role of the PAC The Southeastern Province PAC is dedicated to fostering active participation in the legislative process. Its primary role is to support Kappa's interests by hosting and organizing events that educate, engage, and motivate members and community stakeholders. These include: "Kappa’s Day at the Capital": An annual event designed to raise awareness among legislators about Kappa’s contributions and concerns. Legislative Town Halls: Forums where community issues are discussed, and Kappa’s voice is amplified. Political Rallies and Advocacy Events: Opportunities for members to engage directly with policymakers and participate in grassroots advocacy. Over the past four years, the province has hosted several Kappa’s Day at the Capital events, demonstrating a consistent commitment to influencing legislation and fostering strategic relationships with elected officials across Georgia and South Carolina.

Beyond legislative advocacy, the committee actively supports individual chapters’ efforts to serve their local communities. Whether through voter registration drives, community service initiatives, or scholarship supports, the PAC’s influence extends beyond the halls of government into tangible community uplift. Celebrating Legislative Successes Under Brother Lyons’s leadership, the committee achieved a significant milestone with the advancement of SB35, legislation that finally authorized the disbursement of revenue from the Kappa Tag—a license plate emblem dedicated to fraternity pride—to the province’s foundation. This effort exemplifies perseverance and strategic advocacy, with notable support from Representative Tremaine Reese and Senator Nikki Merritt. Their collaboration culminated in the bill being signed into law by Governor Kemp on March 14, 2024, unlocking vital funding for scholarships and community programs funded through the foundation.
