SHORT & LONG-TERM GOALS Setting goals and smashing them is the key to lifelong success. Short-term goals are the ones that are accomplished in a few days, weeks, or a year. Examples include getting your driver’s license, reading an entire book, or passing the SAT. Long-term goals are those which take more than five years to accomplish. Examples include getting a masters degree or buying a house. When setting goals, it is important to make sure they are smart. This means specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely. Clearly defined goals that are precise and detailed help you stay focused and provide a roadmap to long-term success.

ACING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
Understanding what you can do to influence the outcome of the interview will help you to do your best. The prospect of an interview can make you nervous, especially if it’s for a job you really want, with an employer you really want to work for. However, there is no need to be filled with anxiety if you are well prepared. Can you think of the last interview you had? Or maybe you have never had an interview. Whether you do an interview in person (the most common), over the phone, on the Internet, or even via an audition, preparation and planning are an important part of securing the job.
The first thing to know about first impressions is that it starts right away, long before the interview even begins. Some employers have stated they know within the first 30-seconds or so if a candidate has a shot at getting hired. This is why it is important to make the best impression within the first few minutes of meeting the employer. Work on your elevator pitch! Next, asking good questions during an interview shows you are really interested in the position and that you really want to learn more about the company. This can also send a message to the hiring manager that you are intelligent and can be valuable to the organization.
Page 06
MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED INTERVIEW QUESTIONS Here is a list of questions employers usually ask Tell me about yourself? Explain how your background/experience relates to the job. What is your greatest strengths/weaknesses? Present positives instead of negatives, and address how you are working to overcome the weaknesses. Example: “Sometimes I get overwhelmed with many tasks at once, so I make a habit of always keeping a to-do list so I can manage my priorities.” How does your previous experience relate to the job? The employer is asking about your skills and training. Provide specific examples. Where do you see yourself in a year? Identify any educational goals (vocational training/ college/ management training) and how that will benefit the company. Why should I/we hire you? Talk about what makes you unique. How do you stand out from all the other potential candidates.
Page 07
YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH First Impression Matters
It is not uncommon for an employer to start an interview with the dreaded question, “Can you tell me about yourself?”. By being prepared to talk about your strengths and talents as they relate to the employer’s needs, you can answer that question with poise and confidence.
Page 08
Write Your Elevator Pitch
A good pitch should answer three questions: Who are you? What do you do? What are you looking for?
That should take about 15 seconds. The next 15 seconds should add details about your unique skills and specific ways you could help a potential employer.
Steps to a perfect pitch: K eep I t S hort & S weet 1. Introduce yourself. 2. List your specific skills or services you offer. 3. Make the connection. 4. Let the employer know what type of job you are looking for 5. Don’t forget to close out. Be polite and professional. 6. PRACTICE until it sounds and feels natural.
Page 09
What is the best thing about working here? Could you explain your organizational structure? What is the company's policy on providing training so employees can enhance their skills? What are the next steps in the interview process? When do you anticipate making a final decision about this position? Can you tell me more about the daily responsibilities in this role? Asking good questions during an interview shows that you are really interested in the position and genuinely want to learn more about the company. This can also send a message to the hiring manager that you are organized and prepared and can be a valuable employee. Here are some questions you can ask: QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK DURING YOUR INTERVIEW Write down some questions that you will ask employers during your interviews at the job fair today:

Mental Health Quick Check Step 1: Identify the source of stress in your life. These are called “stressors”.
Step 2 : Adjust to or avoid the stressor Learn to just say “no” and don’t take on more than you can handle. If possible, stay away from people that stress you out. Alter your environment (Play quiet music, organize your work space, drive a less hectic more scenic route, avoid crowds by shopping online and make to do lists for personal and professional goals.) Step 3: Accept the things you cannot change. Recognize that there are things that you do not control. However, do not let those things control how you feel. The bills have to be paid and your financial situation is what it is at the present time. Worrying will not make it better.
“Life can always change, you just have to adjust.” – Drake
Step 4: Do something you enjoy Have fun or just relax.
Step 5: Start a journal Journaling is an effective stress management tool. To be most helpful, one must write in detail about feelings related to stressful events. Journaling allows people to clarify their thoughts and feelings, thereby gaining valuable self ‐ knowledge. It also allows you to hash out problems, process events and release anger or other emotions involved.
