mitted that it said just that and be fore leaving, the way was made plain and this man rejoiced in his salvation, knowing by the Word of God that he had eternal life. An Australian Vessel A certain Australian vessel was due to leave at 2 p. m. one afternoon and the worker, not being aware of the early sailing date, found the boat ready to leave, awaiting the arrival of two men of the crew who were expected any moment. The worker had to hustle to cover the ship before these two men arrived when the gang plank would be drawn in and the vessel would start on its way to the Antipodes. It was then 3:30, and the ship was late. An officer was found in the cabin and a Pocket Testament was offered him. He said, “ I will take it,” and told the following experience. He was on an other boat and the ship was in such distress that some members of the crew died in the accident. “We searched the ship for a Bible or some fragments of the Scriptures, bu t,could not find any thing. No on could pray or do any thing to comfort and wh.en the time for burial at sea came, all we could put together was the Lord’s prayer which I said over the bodies of the men before we put them overboard. What a testimony to give of ignorance of the things of God! This man was shown his need of Christ. A wonder ful opportunity it was to press things home to his heart. He accepted Christ and then the delay in the vessel’s sail ing seemed evidently one of the “ A.11 things,” though the men on board did not realize it. A Japanese Vessel It is an unusual thing on Japanese vessels to find any one hut Japanese on board. A certain vessel arrived which had to he boarded in the bay far from the wharves. A man found on board was dealt with and said he was a Christian, at least once in a while, as he put it. .After making a diagnosis of the case, it was found that he apparently was a man who, to some degree, tried1to lead a Christian life, but he lacked assurance, and did not think a man could be sure of salvation. He was dealt with, and read the Word eagerly, beaming as h e . came to see that he could be 'sure that he was saved forever. It was learned after ward that1he was' a native of the Re public of Panama and the worker re joiced to lead this first man from that

ticed how the ring formed by the con tact of the rock with the water grew and expanded until its waves lapped the shores on all sides? If a rock of the right size were cast into the Pacific Ocean, would not its waves lap upon the shores pf America, China, Japan, Australia, Africa and South America. In this work among the nations of the earth the past month, it was not the desire to create a “ splash,” hut by steady plodding away, to make the in fluence of the Gospel felt on the shores of every land, even unto the shores of time and eternity. Atlantic Fleet at San Francisco A very fine open door was ours among many others, when six vessels of the Atlantic fleet paid San Francisco a visit. There were six thousand men in the crews altogether, fifteen hun dred being midshipmen from Annapolis. The door was wide open and a profit able time was had among the future officers of the navy. The seed was sown and we are praying that it may please Him to see much fruit among ' these men. ' On a British Finer On a recently arrived vessel from the United Kingdom a very good time was had in the work of the Gospel. This boat had been boarded several times, which is Quite unusual, as there is only time usually to visit a ship once. When visiting the ship for the last time, a change in all the members of the crew except two was noticed. These two men spoke well of the hooks which they had received, making the workers heart glad. Finally a sailor was found all alone who soon forgot that he was getting ready to . leave the ship for a while to see the city. Asked if he was a Christian, he thought that he was. “ Are you saved and in possession of Sternal life, do you think?” he was asked. “ No one can know that, he said “ I am sure I will find out when I die, whether I am all right or not,” which is the answer so many give. Turn ing to John 5: 24 he was asked to read. He read slowly: “ Verily, verily, I say I unto you, he that heareth my word, and helieveth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life . . . . but is passed from death unto life.” The worker laid em phasis on the Lord’s “ I say unto you, in contrast with what this man or any other might say; and then this fellow was asked if he did not think from that passage that a person 'could be sure he had everlasting life?
