King's Business - 1920-11

1074 power, the Lord Jesus sets forever His seal to the great truth that the Father can only be known through the Son (Luke 10:22). He has manifested Him (John 1:18), and none can come to the Father except by the Son. He is the door to Heaven. He has the keys. What will become of those who deny the Son of God? Of what value all earthly wisdom if it fails to reveal God as Father? Of what use all education, if the Son is rejected Who alone can reveal the one truth worth knowing? If He be not God manifest in the flesh, what blasphemous words are these He speaks? And if He indeed be God, what blasphemy to couple His name with other names, and to fail to bow at His feet and give Him His rightful place in our hearts? Invitation: “ Come unto Me.” From the awful judgment pro nounced upon the cities of Galilee, He turns now to give a personal invitation to the sons of men. He knows the hearts of men. This is but an echo of the call given to Israel (Isa. 14:3; 28:12). To those who find the world a weary place, He now gives His gra cious invitation. 'This is the turning point in the life of our Lord. He is not only a King, but He is the Son of God. Surely no one but God can give rest. Men need rest of conscience from the sense of sin and guilt; rest of soul in contemplation of - eternity. The world cannot give it. The church can not give it. Mary, the. mother of Jesus, never said “ Come unto Me.” Mrs. Eddy cannot give rest of soul. The philosophers never pretended to give it. There is but One who ever offered it, and He gives it. It is a world-wide invitation to all men, in all ages. It voices the heart- cry of the Son of God. He wept over Jerusalem because they would not come. The one universal panacea for all earth’s ills is to be found in Him, as He says “ Come unto Me, and I will give you rest.”

(7) Words of warning in the Word are sign posts to the passing pilgrim. (8) The child-like are chosen; from the worldly wise, light is with held. (9) All power is placed in His hands. He proclaims punishment to the wicked and promises peace to the weary. Subject Illustration. An English clergyman, kneeling be side a wealthy dying man, asked him to take his hand as he prayed. The man declined to take the proffered hand, putting his close LESSON shut hand under ILLUSTRATIONS the covers of the W. H. Pike bed. After the man had died the rigid hand was found holding the safe key in its death grip. Avarice will blind men and beggar their souls so that they will prefer the grasp of a safe key even to the hand of Christ. A little girl was asked to give her experience of conversion. “ I don’t know that I have any experience. All I know is that Jesus said, ‘Come unto Me,’ and I came. He said, ‘And I will give you

rest,’ and He gave me rest.” Believe and Receive Now.
