“Smarter Labeling” will be the topic of Calvin Lakhan, Doctor UFL/York University Canada. In this workshop he will examine how clear and informative product labeling can influence consumer behavior, particularly with regard to sustainability and waste management. Calvin’s keynote presentation, also in week 2 of drupa, will address the lan- guage that we use to communicate sustainable values and how cultural differences in understanding and attitudes should influence our approach. In the panel “Fit for Recycling - How Ink Enables The Circular Economy”, Ewald Rempel, Technical Application Director Packaging Solutions EMEA at Sun Chemical, and Alina Marm, Head of Global Sustainability & Circular Econ- omy at Siegwerk, will discuss the role of inks and coatings for recyclable packaging. The cube sessions on the topic of “Trends and Forces” will offer insights into the most important drivers - whether economic, digital or demographic which enable innovative business models and opportunities for companies to grow and develop further. Henrik Müller-Hansen, Founder and CEO of Gelato, will highlight new growth opportunities for manufacturers in the age of the creator economy. He will explain the importance of agility, speed, personalization and sustainability, driven by the growing importance of e-com- merce and platforms such as TikTok, YouTube and Insta- gram, and how these factors are changing the print industry.

XSYS, a global provider of flexographic printing plates, plate processing equipment, and prepress software, has introduced two new plates under the newly established ‘nyloflex eco’ brand. “As the entire packaging printing value chain shifts to- wards sustainable solutions, XSYS has launched the ‘nylo- flex eco’ plate series under the slogan ‘Lifting proven qual- ity to a sustainable future,’” said Florian Hoelzle, Product Manager nyloflex/nylosolv. The nyloflex eco ACT is a medium hard photopolymer flexo plate designed to deliver perfect print quality, no matter how challenging the combination of halftones and solids on a cliché may be. One of the key features of this plate, according to the company, is its compatibility with both tube and LED exposure systems. The nyloflex eco FAC is a soft photopolymer flexo plate specifically developed for corrugated post-print. Whether working with rough and uneven surfaces or pressure-sen- sitive, and soft paper substrates, this flexo plate is ex- tremely robust and durable, said the company. The nyloflex ACT and nyloflex FAC have a polymer lay- er that incorporates 19-29 percent renewable raw materi- als, and the plates reportedly offer a 20 percent reduction in plate processing time.
