Danimer Receives Grant For Biodegradable Plastic Danimer Scientific, a developer and manufacturer of bio- degradable materials, announced that the United Soybean Board has awarded the company a $350,000 grant to inves- tigate the use of high-oleic soybean oil (HOSO) in the pro- duction of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a biodegradable alternative to traditional petrochemical plastic. The goal of the year-long project is to develop a practical model for using HOSO to manufacture sustainable biopoly- mers for use in products such as drinking straws, water bot- tles, flexible film packaging, disposable cutlery and more. PHA was verified as an eco-friendly alternative to petro- chemical plastics by the University of Georgia (UGA) and the UGA New Materials Institute in a 2018 study. The mate- rial reliably degrades without leaving behind harmful micro- plastics in a wide range of environments, including home compost units, landfills and oceans. US Steel Names SVP, Chief Commercial Officer United States Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, has appointed Ken- neth Jaycox as Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. Jaycox succeeds Douglas R.
