The Wisdom From Above is First Pure

to fight. The political arena is full of fighters. Many religious groups are fighters and think they are doing God’s work to fight others who are religious but think differently. If you only read the Old Testament you can justify fighting. But if you study the life and teach- ings of Jesus, you under- stand the folly of fighting. It is Godly wisdom that makes Christians gentle in their dealings with others. God’s wisdom makes us one that can be easily entreated. “Entreat” means that we make an earnest request of another. If someone wants something of us, he does not need to beg. But we naturally want to make people “get down on their knees” (figure of speech) if they want some- thing from us. A wise person readily helps others who have needs. True Christians are those who actually look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus to others in any way possible. God’s wisdom fills us with mercy! God’s wisdom deliv- ers us from that human de- sire to “get even” with one who has wronged us. Every- one needs mercy and every- one can have mercy. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” Matthew 5:7, “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath showed no mercy.” See James 2:13. The prospect of suffering judgment without mercy is something I do not want to experience. But that is what we will experience if we do not repent of our sins and be- come merciful to others as God is to us while we are here on this earth!

you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in…” Read the rest of that in Matthew 25:36. The wise Christian is one who continually thinks of others and thinks of ways to show others the love of Jesus. God’s wisdom makes Christians impartial. We are naturally partial to- wards our way of think- ing, our nationality, our family, and our religious training. When we open our heart to Jesus, He de- livers us from our partial- ity. We begin to see all others as people who need Jesus just as much as we need Him. They need His forgiveness and grace just like we need it. We need Jesus just as much as they need Him. We are equals as humans and we learn to respect all others as equals and love them with Christ’s love. Godly wisdom delivers us from hypocrisy. One evil seed we received from Satan is the ability to pre- tend. We always try to portray ourselves as someone better than we really are. When we are converted and become as a little child, we are hum- ble enough to admit that there really is nothing good about us. We con- fess that we are sinners and we need the mercy and forgiveness of Jesus as much as anyone else! We confess that the right- eous living is the work of Jesus in our life and not of any personal righteous- ness of our own.

“The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be en- treated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” Read James 3:13-17. Where do you find wisdom like that today? “The fear of the Lord is the be- ginning of wisdom.” No one is naturally wise! The loss of wisdom is acute because few fear God! The further humans move away from God and truth, the more sinful and stupid they become. Read Ro- mans 1:21-32 for commen- tary on this. It describes our world today. The wisdom from God is first pure. Sin pollutes. There is no wisdom in sin. The fact that a large segment of soci- ety does not want to believe in God is one reason we have all the wickedness and violence today. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” The true Christian sees God at work in the world. He is sovereign and brings judg- ments upon societies and na- tions for the wickedness that comes from ignoring God’s truth. The wisdom of God makes one peaceable! The violence and the destructive protests is the work of Satan in the foolish hearts of men. There is wisdom in laws that protect the values of human life and the personal property of oth- ers. Anarchy is Satan’s work in foolish humans. Godly people seek peaceable ways to quiet the anger of an enemy. Jesus said if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink.
