War&Water

WAR & WATER

War & Water is a list of about one thousand US president speeches from 1980 to 2020, where I counted the words war and water use . I researched the official speeches' transcripts of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. Each president's count was summarized at the end a ratio was calculated. For example, Reagan used fifteen times more the word war than Water , Obama-fourteen, G.W. Bush- sixteen, and Trump four times. After the speeches, I researched and compared the data about two more topics related to these presidents: The number of Americans dead in combats or military- related activities, compared to Americans dead of water-born diseases. When these numbers were related to the US presidents' speeches, the conclusion looked like an inverted progression. More the word war, fewer American soldiers die, and less the word Water was included, more people die because of unhealthy Water in the country. My source of information about the military-related casualties is the Department of Defense and for the number of clean water-based deaths is the CDC website. War &Water will be shown as an installation as well where all pages of the research will be printed on both sides, 24X16 inches hanged on the air in order and by the years they reflect. The viewer can read and walk in between the pages. Audio will be included with the four presidents' voices how they have spoken these two words during the official governmental events. The ratio of war and Water said by each will determine the repetition. The four voices will be combined in a chorus. The installation is conceived to vary in dimensions independence of the exhibition space.
