Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Over the past decade, New Jersey’s architects, builders and construction companies have embraced LEED. LEED buildings have earned their track record in achieving important business and environmental goals such as lowering operating costs and increasing asset value, using sustainable and energy efficient materials and equipment, reducing waste sent to our landfills, conserving energy and water, creating healthier and safer buildings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. On this note, I would like to tell you a little about the exciting new LG Electronics headquarters project in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. LG is designing its state-of-the-art headquarters to be environmentally responsible, energy efficient demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainable construction. The new building, which is striving to achieve LEED Platinum certification, is part of LG’s plan to reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emission by 50 percent by 2020. I understand that the new headquarters’ site will actually increase the percentage of green space by more than 50 percent and reduce rainwater runoff into the Hudson River from a currently abandoned commercial site.
