السدو مهارات النسيج التقليدية يف دولة اإلمارات العربية املتحدة إحـدى الحـرف التقليديـة التي عملت بها املـرأة اإلماراتية منذ القـدم لتلبية الحاجات الرضوريـة لسـكان الباديـة، ولتوفـر املـواد األوليـة الالزمة لهـذه الحرفـة، واملتمثلة بالدرجـة األوىل بوبـر اإلبـل وشـعر املاعـز، وصـوف الغنـم، يُقصـد بالسـدو حياكـة أو نسـج الصـوف، وهـو كسـائر الحـرف والصناعـات اليدوية يعتمـد يف أدواتـه ومعداته وخاماتـه على البيئـة املحليـة، ومنـه صنـع أهـل الباديـة بيوت الشـعر، وأثـاث املنزل كاألغطية والسـجاد والوسـائد، وزينوا إبلهـم وزخرفوا أرسجتهـا وأحزمتها وإخراجها بأشـكال وألـوان جميلة. شـكّل السـدو بتصاميمـه املختلفـة، وزخارفـه وألوانـه الزاهيـة، أشـكاا ًل تراثية يتجىل فيهـا اإلبداع الشـعبي اإلمارايت يف أجمل صوره، وهو مـن بني الحرف اليدوية التي كانـت قـادرة على توفير املنتجـات الالزمـة إلنتـاج عتـاد اإلبـل والخيـل واملفروشـات التقليديـة، ال بـل إمكانيـة املضي يف تطويـره إلنتـاج املنتجـات التقليديـة بأسـاليب ونقـوش مطـورة ومبتكرة.
“Sadu” refers to the intricate process of spinning wool into threads that are horizontally stretched on a loom and woven into beautiful woolen pieces. The term “Sadu” originates from the name of the weaving machine used in this traditional craft. Relying heavily on the local environment for tools, equipment, and raw materials, Sadu is a heritage craft deeply rooted in Emirati culture. Emirati women have practiced this art since ancient times, utilizing materials such as camel hair, goat hair, and sheep wool to meet the practical needs of desert inhabitants. Bedouins used Sadu weaving to produce a variety of essential items, from hair tents and home furnishings like covers, carpets, and pillows, to intricately decorated camel saddles and belts. The craft is celebrated for its vibrant colors, intricate designs, and cultural significance, showcasing the artistic creativity of the Emirati people. Today, Sadu continues to be a source of traditional and innovative products, providing equipment for camels and horses as well as unique, heritage-inspired furnishings. It remains a testament to the enduring beauty and functionality of Emirati heritage.
