Enrichment Through Purification CLEANSING AND DETOXIFYING

We are already a month into the new year — where does the time go? Traditionally, February is known as the month of purification. When we mention purification, we mean cleaning, removing contaminants, and detoxifying. From a standpoint of health, wellness, and stress, purification can take on many different forms and meanings. Here are just a couple of different ways that many of us work to purify our bodies, minds, and spirits. Many of you may have heard about The Whole 30, an elimination diet in which you only eat foods in their natural forms — such as seeds, meat, vegetables, tree nuts, and healthy fats. Keep in mind that a Twinkie doesn’t come off a Twinkie tree! The Liver Cleanse is one that I’ve personally done countless times and have achieved successful results, which can be achieved in many different ways. Because our liver is the largest filter in our body, it’s advantageous to clean it out periodically. There are many ways to do this, just be sure to consult with your doctor before trying one to be sure that it is safe for you! The alcohol cleanse is just what it sounds like — cleansing your body of alcohol for 30 days. For me, this one would be tough because I really enjoy a glass of red wine on the weekends. However, every time my wife doesn’t consume alcohol, she always notes that she gets a much better night of sleep that evening.

The social media/ technology cleanse requires that you stay off all of your devices and social media for a month — this one actually seems relaxing! Or, you can modify it to stay off during the week and catch up on social media on the weekends. A politics and

news cleanse involves cutting television and news out of your daily routine and instead replacing that time with family time, or even watching a heartfelt movie instead. Purification can also take a deep dive into examining different routines and habits you can pick up to enhance your health and overall well- being. As an example, incorporating exercise into your day by starting slowly on day one and increasing the time and intensity every day is one way to begin to purify yourself. I believe that if you have a clean mind, body, head, and soul, you will live a long and happy life — I’m hoping so, anyway! So good luck and be healthy and happy! As a side note, many of you have been checking in on how my family is doing, so, in honor of a new year, I thought I’d provide a little update. My wife is still working here at Campbell Wealth Management as our CFO, but she longs to fulfill her passion of working with horses full-

time. Connor, our oldest son is in his third year as a lefty pitcher for the College of Charleston. There are only four lefties on the team and he is their Sunday starter. We are excited for this year and hope that some major league teams will give him a look. Our middle son, Carter, is in his junior year at Radford University in Virginia, and he’s our entrepreneur — he has already started to make plans to open up his own business in the health and fitness arena. Codie, our youngest child and only daughter, is about to complete her senior year of high school and has chosen the University of Kentucky as her college of choice, and she’s been accepted! We are thrilled for her. As for me, I’m having fun at work and home as I watch my family continue to achieve their great goals! Kelly Campbell

it’s too late. Think of the film as a funny, adventurous, family-friendly take on the classic tale “The Ugly Duckling.” 4. ‘Dumplin’’ — Mashable called “Dumplin’” “the definition of sweet.” The movie stars Rosie (played by Jennifer Aniston) as a pageant-obsessed former beauty queen whose daughter, Willowdean, doesn’t fit conventional beauty standards. When Willowdean enters her mom’s pageant in a protest complete with dancing and Dolly Parton tunes, she sparks a small-town revolution. This movie is recommended for children ages 13 and up. 5. ‘We Can Be Heroes’ — Since its release in 2020, this superhero movie has quickly become a family favorite. 3. ‘Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness’ — The plot of this animated movie is as creative as its title! It follows a cartoon hero named Chickenhare, who is 50% rabbit, 50% bird, and 100% confused about his place in the world. He’s also on a quest with friends to defeat his evil uncle before

A FRESH BEGINNING Embracing a Fresh Start in Retirement

As humans, we often don’t respond well to change. In fact, we are creatures of habit. That’s why many individuals often become depressed after retiring. You may be thinking, “I worked my whole life, awaiting retirement!” Yes, your career may have been daunting at times, and on some Monday mornings it was tough to get out of bed and drag yourself to the office. However, the routine social interaction and companionship with coworkers were all a form of comfort and reassurance. After retirement settles in, many people can often become bored, feel worthless, or become depressed. That’s a big reason why many individuals opt to go part-time before fully transitioning into retirement. It’s a big change. But, if you look at retirement as a new beginning, you’ll find that the journey into retirement is a much happier time. To welcome this new beginning, we advise that you pick up a new hobby or two. Is there an old passion that you may consider

rekindling? Or, is there something that has always intrigued you that you didn’t have time to try before? Whether you decide to take up rock climbing, kickboxing, painting, crocheting, or joining a local book club, finding an activity that you enjoy will not only keep your mind fresh, but it can help you find new enjoyment in life. Retirement also affords you a lot of free time. Are there destinations that you’ve always wanted to travel to? Now is the time to find fulfillment by checking vacations and trips off of your bucket list! Go visit the Eiffel Tower, explore Mayan ruins, and cruise the seas! The world is now your playground — what are you waiting for? The bottom line is that retirement is your time to go on adventures and learn! To get one step closer to a fulfilling and enriching retirement, let us help you plan and map it out!

Looking for a New Hobby? Try One of These Unique Options!

Once the kids have moved out, your newly empty nest provides the best opportunity to rekindle old flames with some of your favorite hobbies or a chance to explore some new ones! Even if you still haven’t reached retirement, having a hobby or two that you are passionate about is essential for your well-being. Here are some exciting hobbies that aren’t your traditional art class or tennis match. Upcycling Your Belongings Many of us have items around the house we no longer use. In fact, they’re likely tucked away somewhere collecting dust. By upcycling them, you can turn them into new treasures. For example, if you have an old glass jar in the back of your pantry, you can paint and decorate it to repurpose it as a vase. Doing Tai Chi Tai chi, a form of martial arts, combines slow and gentle postures and movements, controlled breathing, and a meditative mindset to deliver

a calming practice. It’s a great way to keep yourself busy and improve your physical and mental health. The best part is that it doesn’t require any equipment — only your body! Practicing Archery Archery is fun and interactive and builds your hand-eye coordination. You can practice archery alone, with friends, or with your spouse or partner. All it requires is a bow, some arrows, and your focus. Starting a Book Club Book clubs are a great way to hold yourself accountable for finishing a book from cover to cover and a fun way to get together with friends or to meet new people with similar interests. Restoring Furniture You’ve likely noticed that people will throw away just about everything — even some great pieces of furniture that, with a little TLC, have great potential! Refinishing and reupholstering

old furniture pieces with new paint or fabric is fun and can even make you some extra money!

Whatever you’re passionate about, there’s a hobby out there for you. Even if you’re unsure what you might like, you have the freedom to try out all kinds of different activities!

All Aboard! Know Your Cruise Etiquette Before Setting Sail

After a slump in 2020 and 2021, cruises are back in a big way. If you’re planning your first onboard adventure — or it’s been a while since you last set sail — now is the time to brush up on your cruise ship etiquette. Every passenger should read their cruise line’s policies to ensure they know all the specifics before climbing aboard. In the meantime, we’ve listed some of the most essential do’s and don’ts for the savvy traveler.

Don’t be a chair hog. Everyone wants a prime spot on the sundeck, but you’ve got to rise early in the morning to get one. That’s fine if you can manage it, but “saving” a seat by putting a towel on it and then wandering away for breakfast or a mani-pedi is the best way to get on your fellow travelers’ bad side. Your cruise may also have a policy against it. Going to the bathroom is one thing; you’re only human. Otherwise, if you want the seat, stay in it. Be on time. Treat your cruise ship like an airplane — if you’re not on time, it’s probably leaving without you. And if you are lucky enough to have the ocean liner wait, your fellow passengers won’t look at you kindly. Set your watch to ship time (not local time) and prepare to be back an hour before the deadline. That way, if you happen to be late, you’ll still be on time. You may miss out on an extra drink or souvenir shop, but nothing will ruin your cruise faster than being left behind at the dock.

Know what to wear. Some cruise lines aim for a fancy

atmosphere, while others prefer a casual approach. Ideally, review the dress policy before you book your trip. Bring at least one formal outfit in your luggage for dinner, which tends to have an upscale

vibe. The rest of your cruise wear should be casual but tasteful, leaving you looking put together.

Most importantly, don’t overpack — the stateroom is smaller than you think.
