M3 AND ME
WHY I WANT TO BE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST MAKING AN IMPACT ON PATIENTS’ LIVES
But that all changed when my mother had knee surgery and began attending physical therapy sessions. As I saw my mom progressively improve due to physical therapy, it inspired me to learn more about the profession. It was fascinating to see my mom go from having limited mobility to full range of motion in months. I already had experience working with patients and seeing my mom’s journey with physical therapy, so I decided to look more into the profession. I looked at physical therapy centers in my area, and I came across M3 PT. I decided to visit the facility and ask if they had any volunteer opportunities. After speaking with Amanda, I submitted my resume, and a few days later, I got a call! Instead of volunteering, they wanted me to join their work family as a PT clinic assistant. It’s been an honor to work at M3 PT, and I can’t thank them enough for the incredible opportunity. Since being here, I’ve learned so much from my colleagues every day, and I look forward to what I will learn next. I am currently studying for the GRE and hope to apply to PT schools in the near future, but I am excited for what the future holds!
When you receive an injury or undergo surgery, it may seem that you will never get back to “normal” or that you will always have difficulty with your movements. But that’s what I love about physical therapy — with practice, repetition, and patience; you can build strength, improve movements, and get back to doing the thing you enjoy. Seeing how physical therapy can improve the lives of millions is what attracted me to pursue a career in it. But it wasn’t until I entered college and began working with patients and seeing my mother go to physical therapy that I decided to take steps to become a physical therapist. But I’m getting ahead of myself — let’s start from the beginning. My name is Maham, and I am a PT clinic assistant at M3 PT’s West Hills location. My role consists of assisting our physical therapists with anything they need. Typically, after a therapy session, I conduct exercises with patients and apply hot packs, cold presses, and other modalities to help with their pain and discomfort. On top of that, I will help at our front desk with scheduling new patients and answering incoming calls. I’ve been working at M3 PT for two years. One of my favorite things about working here is connecting with patients and assisting them with their exercises and treatment. Seeing them leave
our facility with a smile and experiencing less pain is both motivating and rewarding.
My passion for working with others started while in college. I was a kinesiology major, and we had a lot of hands-on experience. I helped people conduct different exercises, and I loved every minute of it. Being able to interact with others, help them strengthen their muscles, and learn more about their lives influenced me to find a career where I could help more people and impact them in more ways than one. So, I began volunteering at different clinics and gaining more experience interacting with patients. While I enjoyed working with others and helping them improve their movements, I wasn’t sure what profession I should pursue.

WHAT’S TRENDING?
3 Interior Design Trends of 2023
While it’s only the second month of 2023, interior designers have already noticed several design trends homeowners use to spice up their living spaces. If you want to revamp your home, look no further than these three tips! One of the most popular trends in 2023 is black accent walls or pieces . Black is a neutral color that gives your home a modern and edgy feel without overpowering your room.
Jump back in time by incorporating vintage pieces into your home. From lava lamps to retro-style furniture and wall art, the possibilities are endless.
Make any room in your home look bigger with round furniture and tables . Rectangular and square pieces will cut your room and make it appear smaller. But rounded-edge sofas, armchairs, and coffee tables will open up the space and give the illusion of a larger space.
SPRING ALLERGIES ARE COMING!
CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP WITH SINUS HEADACHES?
2. Manual Therapy Your physical therapist can take a hands-on approach and help stretch out your neck muscles to improve mobility and reduce your chances of having spasms. These stretches can include a myofascial release in which your physical therapist will use a tapping or stroking technique on the sinus cavities on your forehead to remove excess fluid. Other treatment options include an accelerated recovery performance machine (ARP) . This device is an electrical stimulation used on your sinus cavities to help stimulate them and remove excess fluid. After use, you will breathe a lot better without congestion or pressure on your head. Additionally, your physical therapist can use Kinesio tape on the back of your neck to reduce pain and inflammation. While there are several at-home treatments you can try, such as using a neti pot or saline wash, nasal decongestant spray, hot compacts, and other remedies, sometimes sinus headaches and other headaches are difficult to treat. If you or someone you know suffers from chronic and recurring headaches, allow M3 PT to assist you. We can determine what is causing your discomfort and provide treatment options that will help you. Please call one of our offices today to get started.
As we approach spring, you could experience headaches due to a head cold or allergies. You may feel constant pressure on your face and forehead. Usually, headaches go away on their own. However, if you’re experiencing chronic or recurring headaches, physical therapy can be an effective treatment option. What will happen at your first appointment? Your physical therapist will ask you what your symptoms are and outline some reasons for what could potentially be causing your headaches. Once your physical therapist determines what kind of headaches you’re experiencing and their causes, they will look at different treatment options.
What are the treatment options for headaches? 1. Exercise Therapy Strengthening your upper torso, neck, and muscles that support the back of your head is crucial when trying to reduce tension headaches. Building muscles in these areas will decrease your chances of triggering sensitive nerves, which can cause headaches.

Why Are There Circles on Your Body? Learning More About Cupping Therapy and Its Uses
vacuum effect when placed on your body, and the suction pulls the skin inside the cup. The wet method involves a professional using a needle to prick your skin before and after cupping: Toxins will leave your body through the puncture wounds during this cupping method. How does cupping work? The suction from the cups draws fluid into the targeted area, then the force of the suction expands and breaks tiny blood vessels under your skin. When this happens, your body treats the targeted area as if it were an injury, sending more blood to stimulate the healing process. When can cupping therapy be used? While cupping is mainly used to ease pain and reduce inflammation, it can also treat other health conditions such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, irritable bowel disease, headaches, high blood pressure, and pain within your neck, back, knees, and shoulders. However, do not undergo cupping therapy if you have hemophilia, blood clotting issues, a history of strokes or seizures, eczema, or psoriasis. There aren’t many studies about cupping therapy or its effectiveness. Therefore, please contact M3 PT for more information about the method and other treatment options we have available to you. We will be happy to learn more about your condition and offer strategies to help you and your needs.
For thousands of years, ancient civilizations and people worldwide have used cupping to help with pain, inflammation, and blood flow. It can even be used as a deep-tissue massage. But what exactly is cupping, and how does it work?
What is cupping therapy? Cupping is an ancient method to ease pain. A physical therapist, massage therapist, chiropractor, or another professional will place cups on different body parts — depending on what is causing pain. You can use the cup method in two ways: the dry and wet methods.
For the dry method, a professional heats the inside of each cup with a cotton pad soaked with alcohol and sets it aflame. The heat creates a

Brushing Up on Cruise Etiquette
FORMERLY KNOWN AS WILSHIRE LINDEN PHYSICAL THERAPY — SAME TEAM, NEW NAME!
KNOW YOUR CRUISE ETIQUETTE BEFORE SETTING SAIL ALL ABOARD!
After a slump in 2020 and 2021, cruises are back in a big way. If you’re planning your first onboard adventure — or it’s been a while since you last set sail — now is the time to brush up on your cruise ship etiquette. Every passenger should read their cruise line’s policies to ensure they know all the specifics before climbing aboard. In the meantime, we’ve listed some of the most essential do’s and don’ts for the savvy traveler. Know what to wear. Some cruise lines aim for a fancy atmosphere, while others prefer a casual approach. Ideally, review the dress policy before you book your trip. Bring at least one formal outfit in your luggage for dinner, which tends to have an upscale vibe. The rest of your cruise wear should be casual but tasteful, leaving you looking put together. Most importantly, don’t overpack — the stateroom is smaller than you think. Don’t be a chair hog. Everyone wants a prime spot on the sundeck, but you’ve got to rise early in the morning to get one. That’s fine if you can manage it, but “saving” a seat by putting a towel on it and then wandering away for breakfast or a mani-pedi is the best way to get on your fellow travelers’ bad side. Your cruise may also have a policy against it. Going to the bathroom is one thing; you’re only human. Otherwise, if you want the seat, stay in it. Be on time. Treat your cruise ship like an airplane — if you’re not on time, it’s probably leaving without you. And if you are lucky enough to have the ocean liner wait, your fellow passengers won’t look at you kindly. Set your watch to ship time (not local time) and prepare to be back an hour before the deadline. That way, if you happen to be late, you’ll still be on time. You may miss out on an extra drink or souvenir shop, but nothing will ruin your cruise faster than being left behind at the dock.
