A successful painter who worked for many years in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Edward Hill relocated to Hood River, Oregon in 1911, where he would spend the rest of his life. This painting was created in 1919, at the heart of Hill’s Oregon period. Maple syrup has been made in Oregon for many years, from the Bigleaf Maple tree.
