PCNY Member Experience Fall 2019



Dear Members, Welcome back! The warm summer winds are still blowing but fall’s cooler air is just around the corner. Fall has always been a time of reunion at the Club. Reconnecting with friends and fellow members, sharing vacation stories over lunch, attending an event, getting back in shape (try one of our new Pelotons), or simply getting down to business. It’s a second home for so many of us! We are excited to soon unveil our new, state-of-the-art business center. Comfortable work stations, Hot Desks, and boosted cell phone booths will be available for members. Next door to the Business Center is the new Member’s Lounge featuring a restored vintage bar, wood paneling, and artwork. Together, these new spaces are designed to meet your needs for comfort, convenience, and camaraderie. We hope that you’ll find the Lounge to be a lovely escape away from the hectic pace of the city, perfect for conversation and socializing. For members who are seeking quieter pursuits, a library and reading room is now available on the 7th floor in addition to the quiet areas of the business center. The Program and Food and Beverage Committees have an exciting line-up of events in store for us this season as well as some traditional favorites. On September 11, the Club welcomes Director of the MoMA, Glenn Lowry,Williams ’76 to discuss the museums expansion project and reopening this October. On September 16, the Club welcomes JP Morgan’s Joyce Chang, Princeton ’90, Chair of Global Research and Liz Myers, Princeton, ’92, Managing Director and Head of Global Equity Markets as they discuss navigating business with China. Just ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, The Olympic Experience panel discussion, scheduled for November 11, will share some of the challenges amateur athletes face while training for their “moment”. On Tuesday, October 10, in celebration of Italian Heritage Month, we pay tribute to the cult-movie classic, Big Night , with author Joseph Tropiano, who together with his cousin, Stanley Tucci, wrote the script for what was to become one of the greatest food scenes in film making history. A Sundance Jury Review winner, the movie inspired our own Chef Michael’s (see Chef ’s Corner, page 6) culinary journey. Also joining us for this five-course feast – interspersed with movie clips, fine wines, and behind the scenes stories from the film – is Italian food historian, Francine Segan, who is teaming up with Chef Michael to put their own authentic twist on the evening’s offerings. Cheers to these last few days of summer! I look forward to welcoming our new members to Orientation on September 24 and honoring our 50Year Members’ at the annual Luncheon on October 8. This year’s Annual Meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 22 and I hope to see you there. Don’t forget to save the date for our All Ivy Halloween Ball on October 25 and our traditional All Member Holiday Party on December 17. There is so much in store for us this fall.
