Tasmanian Hospitality Review - December/January 2024

Tourism Tasmania

industry of choice for Tasmanians, to build strong foundations for our future.

While we’ve seen visitor numbers soften over the past winter compared to a record in visitation during 2022, this summer is looking very positive. We’re expecting a bumper cruise ship season, Air New Zealand is increasing direct flights for summer, and two new routes with Rex Aviation and Bonza Airlines are in operation between Melbourne – Hobart and Gold Coast – Launceston respectively. It’s an exciting time in Tasmania’s hospitality industry and I wanted to thank you for continuing to provide high quality, authentic experiences that showcase our island state. I want to wish everyone the very best for the busy season ahead, and a great start in 2024.

This year, with the support of Tourism Tasmania’s global PR agency, we’ve seen stories representing Tasmania’s hospitality sector in media and publications around the world. Martha Stewart was quoted as saying Tasmania has ‘the best food in the world’ in Conde Nast UK, Forbes USA published a travel feature focusing on our food and wine, South China Morning Post highlighted Tasmanian whiskey as some of the best, and readers of Conde Nast Traveller voted Kittawa Lodge on King Island as the best resort in Australia. Closer to home, Australian Financial Review described our whiskey industry as rivalling Scotland’s and The Waterloo and Van Bone were listed in The Australian’s ‘ten regional restaurants worth traveling for’.
