As the 2023 year moves towards the end of the calendar year it is timely to reflect on the activities that have occurred throughout 2023. Members continue to reach out for ER assistance and support advice for areas such as restructuring and rosters, partially due to high demand and low supply of staff. It is also in part due to the lasting impact of Covid necessitating the changes in many cases. The ER assistance throughout the 2023 year to members included unfair dismissals, general protection hearings and similar. The spread between clubs, hotel accommodation, restaurants/cafes, new members, microbreweries, distilleries, and associated hospitality businesses demonstrates a resilient and diversified mix. Federal Legislation Changes - Fair Work (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Bill via newsletter, magazine, and webinars. The AHA / States National Workplace Relations working party continue to monitor and report as applicable and Merv is a member of this group. The key role of this group includes the monitoring and provide updates and advice to members as the changes mature including webinars and bulletins. High focus on AHA submissions including superannuation, casual contracts will form part of future communication. Note no changes to casual contracts have occurred and proposed superannuation changes are not due until 2026. Communications to members continues

Keep an eye out for the updated THA website which will include key references and links for members within the ER portal including Fair Work Learning Centre modules online training. The THA will provide communication and facilitation support in this area in early 2024 and reference in webinars.
