Holiday Traditions “Every Christmas Eve, my family gets together to celebrate. We have a potluck-style meal, and the kids gather and sing Christmas songs led by my cousin (Caleb Carpenter) playing the guitar. When they sing “Here Comes Santa Claus,” Santa himself makes an appearance and calls each kid by name, inviting them to sit on his lap and receive their first Christmas gift of the season. We then wrap up the gifts, and my husband opens mine and I open his. So, there is still some fun of opening presents and not knowing what is in them, but we don’t stress about what to buy each other. “My kids and I love to fill thermoses of hot cocoa and head out one evening before Christmas to view Christmas lights by car. We listen (and sing along) to Christmas carols while we drive around. We have a few favorite neighborhoods that are must-see locations each year, but Facebook often has great lists of places to view holiday light displays. It is fun to see the traditional displays and then also to find some of the over- the-top displays.
