ENRICH YOUR VACATION

Buy Local When You’re Abroad

ART Just as your town probably has local artisans who produce unique and interesting work, the same is true for your vacation destination. Anyone can get a gift shop bauble that was mass- produced somewhere else. Take the time to peruse market stalls and craft fairs while you travel. It can lead you to some truly special souvenirs, and you’ll support the arts and traditions of the region! PEOPLE While you’re out sampling local restaurants and exploring local markets, you’ll meet plenty of local people. Don’t be afraid to strike up a friendly conversation. You can make new friends around the globe and learn about their unique experiences. One of the most enriching experiences in life is meeting new people and gaining new perspectives. MEMORIES Treasured memories are the best souvenir you can bring home from any vacation. So you owe it to yourself to get out and explore!

The virtues of buying locally sourced food and supporting small businesses have been widely extolled. But we rarely think to apply the same practices when we travel. Many Americans spring for all-inclusive packages when planning their next summer vacation, but doing so means they’ll miss out on some of the best aspects of the culture they’re visiting. Part of the joy of traveling is having new experiences you can’t have at home. Whether you’re in another state or another country, you owe it to yourself to seek out the unique aspects of that location. But to find the character and quirks of your destination, you’ll have to explore beyond the hotel lobby. FOOD Why have a cheeseburger from a fast-food chain when you can try a local favourite? A great way to start is by asking your taxi driver or hotel concierge about their favourite place to eat. You’ll discover new foods and flavour combinations, and the locally owned restaurant is sure to appreciate your business!

JMMB at a Glance

Meet Kareem Tomlinson

Over the years, JMMB has established itself as a dominant player in the local fixed-income market. Looking forward, we’re establishing ourselves as a dominant player in the equities market by way of JMMB Securities Limited.

The reason why is simple: “Working in the financial industry is as challenging as it is rewarding. The industry is a fast-paced and dynamic one in which you are often required to think on your feet to find solutions to complex problems. Generally, no two days are the same. This is exactly the type of environment I thrive best in.” And in this fast-paced world, Kareem offers a piece of advice: “If you never ask, the answer will always be no. Never be afraid to explore new frontiers, push new boundaries.”

That’s where Kareem Tomlinson comes in. He’s the General Manager for JMMB Securities Limited, the equities arm of the JMMB Group. This arm is responsible primarily for the Group’s equity-related business lines. Broadly, he develops and implements JMMB Securities Limited’s strategy to drive the company’s growth within the context of JMMB’s Group overall long-term vision and strategy. Kareem has been a part of the financial industry since 2007, when he joined JMMB as ETM Migration Officer at the Haughton Terrace branch. Since then, he has served in a number of other capacities within our Financial Analysis and Control Team (FACT), our Market Risk Department, and our Group Capital Markets Unit. In short, his career in the financial industry has been with JMMB and, as he puts it, “I would have had it no other way.”

Or, as the late, great Muhammad Ali put it:

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible

is not a fact. Impossible is an opinion. Impossible is nothing!”
