battles and all that they did, but now since they did not worship Him, the Lord could not help them, and the enemies of Israel overcame them, and Israel were in great trouble. Then God raised up some men called judges to help Israel and kept their enemies from hurting them. God let them suffer from their enemies and get into all kinds of trouble as a punishment for their sin against Him, in forgetting His com mands and worshipping idols, but after He had punished them and they called upon Him He helped them. God did not like their sin but He loved them and cared for them as our memory verse tells us. He careth for you. Charles’ mother did not like the wrong thing he did, but she loved Charles and just be cause she did love him she punished him so he would not do the wrong thing again, then she loved him and helped him, and in our story after God had punished Israel He helped them.
