Location: 757 S Alameda St., Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Description: Students were asked to design a 15,200-square-foot office for the Steelcase NEXT law firm, aiming to transform the workplace from a symbol of “prestige” to on of “legacy”. The project involves creating an inclusive, hybrid-ready enviorment for 55 employees that integrates Steelcase furnishings to support well-being and collaboration. Concept: Based on the concept of Redwood trees growing in circle formations, the concept for the environmental law firm embodies interconnected strength and individual legacy. The firm’s structure is visualized as a central, mature parent tree, representing the core values and foundational expertise of the firm. Around this core, the three litigation sectors sprout like distinct, yet interdependent redwood trees in a fairy ring. Each litigation sector, or “tree”, is encouraged to cultivate its own legacy and deep expertise, ensuring that every litigation is its own tree with unique achievements. However, their roots are intertwined, symbolizing how they help stabilize and nourish each other through shared resources, knowledge, and collaborative strategy. This reinforces the principle of “stronger together”, where the collective firm offers unparalleled resilience and support, ensuring that the individual successes of the sectors contribute to the overall strength and enduring success of the whole firm’s environmental mission.

Location: Vol Walker Hall 459 N Campus Walk, Fayetteville, AR 72701
Description: Tasked with reimagining a wing of the architecture building, students designed a coffee shop and added a connective form of a found object. The project served as an exercise in adaptive reuse, testing how a reclaimed item could define the character and layout of the space. Concept: The new coffee bar at Vol Walker Hall is designed as a sophisticated, collaborative hub that transcends its primary function to become a vital oasis for the studio community. By harmonizing sleek, modern finishes with the building’s existing contemporary aesthetic, the design seamlessly continues the interior language of the hall while celebrating the University of Arkansas identity through the strategic use of its prominent red. This vibrant color serves as a visual anchor within the space, energizing the versatile environment to support both focused individual study and spontaneous social interaction.

SENIOR LIVING HIGH RISE
Location: Niigata, Japan
Description: Students designed an accessible high-rise for Japanese seniors, synthesizing ADA, Type A, and Type B American accessibility requirements with cultural specificities. The project demonstrates a commitment to universal design while addressing the unique lifestyle preferences and ergonomic needs of Japan’s elderly population within a high-density urban context. Concept: Drawing inspiration from the Japanese concept of ensō, this design celebrates the “beauty of aging” as a continuous, soulful journey rather than a finite process. At the heart of the community lies a central communicating stair, acting as a structural anchor that fosters spontaneous connection and fluid movement between levels. Much like the hand-drawn stroke of an ensō circle, the architecture avoids rigid perfection, instead offering a framework where residents exercise meaningful choice in their personal environments and daily rhythms. This philosophy honors the individuality of every resident, ensuring the built environment remains an open, evolving invitation. By embracing the “open circle” aesthetic, the design creates a space that feels intentionally incomplete—waiting for the presence, history, and unique spirit of its inhabitants to bring it to fulfillment.

Location: 18 W Center St, Fayetteville, AR 72701
Description: This architectural challenge tasks students with the adaptive reuse and structural unification of two conjoining buildings to house a premier private art collection. By integrating tactile exhibits, immersive digital layers, and a ground-floor transparency that engages with the local Farmer’s Market and city life, students must design a sanctuary for high art that remains intentionally accessible and interactive for visitors of all ages. Concept: This gallery design centers on the principles of adaptive reuse, transforming a historic structure into a contemporary cultural destination by weaving together traditional gallery layouts with bold, sculptural interventions. The architectural narrative is defined by major curves that slice through the longitudinal section, creating fluid vertical connections and dynamic pockets for visitors to gather amongst artwork. By prioritizing the integration of natural light through specialized roof monitors and large-scale openings, the design elevates the historic shell, blending the familiarity of an established gallery sequence with a modern, sculpted spatial experience
