1 A great horse has won a great race twice, so now it is named after her. She runs in it, wins it – and breaks the course record! The VIC Racing Club was pleased to permanently re-name the famous Group 1 VRC Lightning Stakes (first run in 1955) as the Black Caviar Lightning, by kind permission of her proud owners.

1 The perfect end to the perfect story. Black Caviar achieved 25 wins, 15 at Group 1 level, out of 25 career starts. It’s never been done anywhere in the world in the 20th or 21st centuries.

After retiring from the track in April 2013, Black Caviar embarked on her second career as a mother. In October 2013, the exciting news was announced that Black Caviar was in foal to champion sire Exceed and Excel. In the early hours of 13 September 2014, Black Caviar became a mother for the first time to a bay filly (Oscietra) a“ectionately known as ‘Little Cav’. The champion mare has gone on to have five more foals.
