Memory Work for October Question: What did the Lord Jesus say that He was? Answer: (The seven I am’s o f John’s Gospel.) “ I am that bread of life” (John 6:48). “Then spake Jesus again unto them, say ing, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). “ I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture” (John 10:9), “ I am the good shepherd: the good shep herd giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10 : 11 ). “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrec tion, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). “ I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).

There are many kinds of letters—busi ness letters, friendly letters, letters of invi tation, sad letters, and glad letters. There are letters that tell of the wonderful things the Lord has done for the one who wrote them, letters in which many precious verses from the Word of God are quoted. But have you thought about how people can read a living letter? In 2 Corinthians 3:23, we find that Christians are told: “Ye are our epistle [letter] . . . known and read of all men . . . the epistle of Christ.” Ac cording to this passage, we who know the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour are liv ing letters. People are reading our message each day, and this message is given form by the words that we say and the things that we do. What kind of letter have you been today? Just as some letters are received with joy because of the help, and comfort which they bring, so some boys and girls and grown ups, too, are welcomed because of the joy and helpfulness they bring to other people. How can we be the kind of letters that will bring happiness to those who meet us every day in the home or at school or wherever we are? W e can do this only if we have received the Lord Jesus as Saviour and are living each day to please Him. “ But as many as received him [Jesus Christ], to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). If you have not yet received the Lord Jesus as your own Saviour, do so today. Then you can indeed be a joyous and helpful letter that people will be glad to receive.—M. S. H. New K. Y. B. C. Living Letters Vacation days have gone again, and many of us have spent happy days at the beach or in the mountains. But no matter where we are, there is one event in the day that is always welcomed by all, and that is mail time. How especially good it is to receive letters when we are away from home!

Take it wherever you go, Take it wherever you go; God’s message of love, Sent down from above; O, take it wherever you go.
