who compose the body of Christ which, when complete, will be translated to heaven. A chain of events then will usher in God’s kingdom of peace which shall continue forever and ever. “The beams that shine on Zion’s hill Shall lighten every land; The King who reigns in Zion’s towers Shall all the world command. No strife shall vex Messiah’s reign Or mar the peaceful years; T o plowshares men shall beat their swords, T o pruning hooks their spears.” I saw in Kensington Garden a picture of Waterloo a good while after the battle had passed, and the grass had grown all over the field. There was a dismounted cannon, and a lamb had come up from the pasture and lay sleeping in the mouth of that cannon. So the artist had represented it, a most suggestive thing. Then I thought how the war between God and the soul had ended and Instead of the announce ment, “ The wages of sin is death,” there came the words, “My peace I give unto thee,” and amid the batteries of the law that had once quaked with the fiery hail of death, I beheld “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”— Five Thousand Best Modern Illustrations, by Hallock. NOVEMBER 7, 1937 PEACE ON THE MARCH! P salm 34:14; I saiah 2:4 Meditation on the Lesson

Judging from current radio news flashes, “peace on the march” is a term incon- gruent with the present world situation. We must beware of taking the words of our text in Isaiah from their context and applying them to a totally different setting from that.to which the prophet of God referred, for he is speaking of a time in the future when the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ, shall come in glory to set up His kingdom on the earth, and world peace shall prevail. Hence he says: “ It shall come to pass in the last days ”— after the present economy has been super seded—that “out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jeru salem” (Isa. 2:2, 3). Is the center of the world’s government now at Jerusalem? No, that situation is still future. From Zechariah 14:3, 4, 9, 11, we learn the identity of tha One who shall come per sonally to rule world affairs from Jeru salem-—Jehovah Himself, in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah continues to describe the circumstances which shall sur round the future government centered at Jerusalem, the city of the King. The Absolute Monarch enthroned on Mount Zion “shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people” (Isa. 2:4). World politics today are not controlled by one set of laws; hundreds of conflicting commands are being issued by numerous mutually hostile dictators. Isaiah says that when the mandates of world government emanate from one Lawgiver at Jerusalem, then all the warriors of the earth “ shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more” (v. 4). The peaceful condition for which we all long can only become a reality when the Prince of Peace, who died on the cross to reconcile man to God, comes to reign. As long as Satan is the prince of this world- system, and as long as men, blinded by lust of gold, of power, and of fame, follow in his train, war is inevitable. Many at tempts have been made by individuals and by organizations to establish peace among the nations of the world. Although a tem porary success may have been realized, at times, the net result has been outstanding failure. These discouraging facts need not deter us as Christians from living peaceably, righteously, and godly in the endeavor- to bring others to a knowledge of the Saviour, the only One who can impart genuine peace. Peacefulness in the individual heart I contributes to the peace of the whole group
