the sinner dying in Christ. It is not simply Christ being raised from the dead. It is the believer being raised with the divine Head. It is not simply man reaching out after G od; it is God taking the form of man and then, as the “ Son of man,” changing life’s entire process, subjecting it to the cross for the extinction of that great mon ster which has been the source of all cor ruption, the root of man’s misery, namely, the principle of self, and bringing him out from the tomb charged with the life of the ages—resurrection life.— F. J. H uegel . The highest form of Christian service is intercessory prayer. I state this without fear of any contradiction. And what I am going to say now is applicable to every Christian in the world, for all may have a part. You may not be able to preach, but you can pray. It is your privilege to become an intercessor if you choose to, and thus to accomplish the greatest work that God has committed to man. — O swald J. S mith . When God has a thing to be done, He teaches some one to pray. —Christian Reader’s Digest. By the inworking of the Holy Ghost and the irrigation of the water o f the Word, the desert heart shall rejoice and blossom as a rose, and the flowers of grace in the life will be crimson-tipped with the testi mony of the blood. Before the prairie land on the Pacific Coast was irrigated, nothing but sand could be seen, but the result of irrigation and cultivation caused it to bring forth in beauty and abundance. This is equally true of grace. When the crimson flood touches heart and life, it kills the aridness of sin and causes the whole being to respond to the Lord. — H. C. C. M c C ullough . "And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord” (Psa. 40:3). I waited for the Lord my God, And patiently did bear; At length to me He did incline, My voice and cry to hear. He took me from a fearful pit, And from the miry clay, And on a rock He set my feet, Establishing my way. He put a new song in my mouth Our God to magnify; Many shall see it, and shall fear, And on the Lord rely. —Keswick Convention, 1936. NOVEMBER 15 Praying for Others “Neither pray 1 for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word” (John 17:20). NOVEMBER 18 Liberty in Captivity "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into cap tivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). As Lord of our life, Jesus must be Lord of all that is in our life.. . . That would be a pitiful hypocrisy which proclaimed Him Lord over the outer life and kept the real life within from His sovereign control. Thoughts, feelings, tastes, imaginations, ideals, judgments—all these are to be under the rule of Christ. Yet His bondage is perfect liberty and life. He delivers us from the lower slavery to the emancipated life.— European Harvest Field. NOVEMBER 19 Worldliness " Love not the world . . . . I f any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15). Worldliness is a parasite to rob us of the joy of the Lord.
