The most severe drought to impact Wake County within the past 20 years occurred when the county spent 54 weeks in drought from May 2007 to May 2008. At the drought’s peak from October 2, 2007 through March 4, 2008, the entirety of the county was considered in D4 (Exceptional) drought. Impact: 1 – Minor Spatial Extent: 4 – Large Historical Occurrences Table 4.17 summarizes the drought events reported by the U.S. Drought Monitor for Wake County from 1998 through 2018.
