Here’s what that might look like: If your goal is to lose some weight and exercise more, you may need a personal trainer. That’s a big investment, right? Well, for me, the value pays for itself. If I didn’t have my personal trainer holding me accountable, I would just sleep in. But I get up every morning because I know Sam is waiting for me. If I don’t show up, I’m letting him down. So what does that mean for you? You don’t necessarily need a personal trainer. You may be joining a group that needs you to be there every single Wednesday night. Someone is holding you accountable! Are you going to let them down? 3 Set aside time every week and month to stay on track. This next tip is all about scheduling time for yourself. And guess what—I’m talking about Friday. Friday is actually a phenomenal time for planning, especially Friday afternoon. At work, there aren’t a lot of new tasks popping up. This can be some of your most productive time of the week. My challenge to you is this: block out four hours every Friday afternoon. Use that time to look back on your week and all the notes you have. Follow up on meetings, conversations, and things you promised someone you’d do. Then get your calendar out and plan the week ahead. Focus on your Melaleuca business, career, relationships, and yourself and your goals. Say you look at your week ahead and see that you have a Melaleuca in-home scheduled for Wednesday. Tuesday, however, is jam-packed with other stuff. The kids have soccer games. You have a church activity. All that means is that you need to schedule time on Monday to prepare for your in-home on Wednesday. By taking time to plan on Friday afternoon, you escape that cycle of working late to get it all done the night before. Sound familiar?
TAKE A “FLIGHT DAY” All right, so you’re using your Friday
afternoons to prepare for the week ahead. Now I want to give you one last challenge: set aside one full day every month just for you. Jeremy Utley is a friend of mine. He’s a professor at the Stanford School of Design. He once shared a story about taking his daughters on a flight from Texas to California so they could stay with his in-laws. He actually found himself looking forward to that long day of flying to California and back. He’d have hours of focused time to get things done. Unsurprisingly, that flight day wasn’t tiring; it was invigorating! Now Jeremy schedules one day per month completely clear of any meetings. It’s just planning time—thinking time. He’s not actually taking a flight. But on his calendar he calls it a “flight day.” He protects that time. And you can do the same. So my final challenge to you is to set aside one weekday per month as your “flight day.” Put it on your calendar. Keep that time free. You’ll find that it’s liberating. It’s empowering. It will help you stay in control of your calendar instead of your calendar being in control of you. WHERE WILL YOU BE A YEAR FROM NOW? Remember: first build the life you want, and the time will fall into place. Instead of just having the same goal on a loop year after year, this is your chance to move forward. Set a goal that requires discipline. Get that accountability partner. Treat Friday afternoon as precious planning time and put that once-a-month “flight day” on the calendar. Try it for 90 days— then report back to me. It’s a simple formula. But I guarantee that if you embrace it, you’ll look back a year from now and be amazed at everything you’ve been able to change.
you start losing that identity, which impacts your well-being. After a while, you might look up and ask, “What is it that I love to do again?” ACCOUNTABILITY HELPS YOU USE YOUR TIME EFFECTIVELY My point is that if you first build the life you want, the time will fall into place. It’s a shift that’s both simple and profound. Are you ready to take this step with me? I guarantee it’ll change your life. First, set a goal that requires discipline and gets you out of your comfort zone. Make a commitment to yourself to achieve this goal—but get someone else to hold you accountable.
