Magnesium is just one of many minerals our bodies depend on for many different functions—including getting adequate vitamin D to where it’s needed in our bodies. Researchers find that low magnesium levels make vitamin D ineffective. Deficiency in either magnesium or vitamin D is associated with an impaired immune system, as well as other various other disorders, including skeletal deformities, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic syndrome. 8 FEELING DISCONNECTED SOCIALLY ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCREASED RISK OF HEART ATTACK AND STROKE Feeling lonely and isolated is causing health problems in North America and around the world. “More than 30% of US adults have what’s known as chronic sleep debt, defined as the difference between sleep duration on days off work compared to working days,” writes Healthline. “This is due in part to staying up later than average on weekend nights.” 6 “Getting less than five hours of sleep in mid- to-late life could be linked to an increased risk of developing at least two chronic diseases,” reports Science Daily. 7 Adults should regularly get 7–8 hours of restful sleep per night. Ideally, your sleep/ wake cycle should be uninterrupted and extremely predictable, corresponding with natural daylight cycles, and you should be sleeping and waking at nearly the same time day in and day out. Adequate sleep provides you with far more benefits than can be listed here. Conversely, sleep deprivation can lead to an equally long list of health problems. HALF OF ALL AMERICANS ARE MAGNESIUM DEFICIENT Even if we are taking steps to eat healthier each day, most of us are still not getting the nutrients we need from food alone.
