RIVERWALK ADULT DAY SERVICES OF NAPERVILLE Riverwalk Adult Day Services, located in the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, offers a full day of activities for adults in need of companionship or who are at risk when left home alone. A professional staff, including nurses, activity coordinators and assistants, provides purposeful daytime activities and outings for participants. After completing an evaluation, adults may attend this program on a scheduled basis. A fee is charged. A physical examination is required prior to attending. Hours are 7:45 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Volunteers are always welcome! For more information, contact Jennifer Brasfield at 630-357-8166. RTA REDUCED-FARE CARD Naperville Township seniors can obtain a Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Card by contacting Jenny Dawley, 630-355-2786 ext. 4403, at the Naperville Township offices Monday through Friday each week. The Township office is located at 139 Water Street, Naperville. The RTA Card also is available for Lisle Township residents at the Lisle Township Office, 4721 Indiana, Lisle 630-968-2087. The RTA Card provides a discount to persons 65 years of age and older on the CTA buses and rapid transit, PACE buses and Metra trains in the six-county area served by the RTA. FREE INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE REGISTRATION IN PROGRESS Volunteers trained through the AARP tax-aide program provide free tax filing assistance to seniors. Please bring the following to your 45-minute tax appointment: last year's federal and state tax returns and records, a photo I.D. for each senior who will be listed on the tax return, proof of social security number (i.e. Social Security card, Social Security 1099 form or Medicare card), a blank or voided check, income documents including W-2 forms, 1099 forms, etc. and information about tax-deductible items including dependents, interest, property tax bill, federal and/or state tax refund (if applicable), charitable donation receipts, etc. If you have had a problem in the past with tax fraud, please do not forget to bring your IRS Identity Protection PIN. When registering, you will be prompted to answer a question as to whether you are filing a single return or a joint return. If filing a joint return, please register for only one tax appointment. If you are filing for two years, please register for separate back-to-back tax appointments. Appointments take place at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 5 through Apr. 10, 2024 from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm This year two rooms will be used for tax appointments (three stations in each room) and one additional room will be used for check-in. FREE LEGAL AID Prairie State Legal Service Inc. provides free representation in civil legal matters for anyone who is “60 and better.” Services for wills and real estate problems are NOT provided by Prairie State through this program. Call 630-690-2130 for your appointment. You may request assistance in the following areas: 1. Housing, eviction, tenant problems, subsidized, low-income housing, unsafe or unsanitary conditions, FHA or VA foreclosures and nursing home rights. 2. Public benefits/income maintenance: unemployment compensation, social security, social security insurance, public aid, Aid for Dependent Children, Aid for the Aged, Blind and Disabled, food stamps and general assistance. 3. Health care: Medicare, Medicaid, Hill-Burton and hospital collection defense. 4. Domestic abuse and related family-law issues. 5. Consumer law/miscellaneous, repossession, exemption rights and utility shut-offs. SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) SHIP is the Illinois State Health Insurance Assistance Program. Whether you are new to Medicare or already enrolled, SHIP is a great way to get information and answers about health insurance coverage for seniors. If you are considering a prescription drug plan, please bring your Medicare card, any other insurance cards and a list of your medications, including dosage and frequency to your appointment. If you would like to see if you might be eligible for financial help in paying for Medicare, bring your most recent tax return. Open Enrollment occurs every year between October 15 and December 7. Appointments during this timeframe are for those who would like to review their Medicare Part C coverage or Part D prescription plans to insure you have the most comprehensive, cost efficient coverage for the upcoming year. Information on health insurance coverage for seniors includes the following: Medicare A & B (hospital/doctor), Medicare C (Medicare Advantage Plans/HMO, PPO, PFFS), Medicare D (Prescription Drug Plans), Medicare Supplemental Policies (Medigap), Long Term Care Insurance and Medicaid Programs.
