Why Faulkner CHS?
“I chose to pursue my Master of PA Studies at Faulkner because it was clear from the very beginning that the faculty genuinely care about their students. While I knew Faulkner was a faith- based university, I didn’t realize how deeply that faith would be reflected until my interview day. The compassion and sincerity the staff showed confirmed that this was exactly the kind of support system I needed. Staying grounded spiritually is essential to both my personal and academic success, and Faulkner has supported me in that every step of the way. I’m truly grateful to be part of this community.”

From the beginning, I’ve felt fully supported—academically, emotionally, and spiritually—in a way I truly believe no other program could offer. Each faculty member brings unique strengths that uplift, encourage, and equip us to become both competent and compassionate providers. Their approachable and understanding nature has created a space where I always feel heard and supported. It’s clear they genuinely care about each of us. If I can become even half the provider they model each day, I will consider my journey a success.”

“I chose to pursue my DPT at Faulkner because I knew that it was a Christian university and I wanted to surround myself with professors and classmates that were of the Christian faith. I wanted to attend a place that was not ashamed to talk about Jesus, the gifts he gives us, and the impact we can make on future patients.”
What impact has the program made on you?
“The Faulkner PT program has already made a positive impact on my life because of the relationships I have made with my classmates. Before attending Faulkner, I was unsure that I would make close bonds with new people in my cohort. However, I was able to meet amazing people that have not only care about my success in school, but care about my family, my hobbies, and choose to have fun outside of school.”

“When choosing what universities to apply to Faulkner stood out to me because of the Christian environment that encouraged me, not discouraged me. I was able to meet the President of the University during Exposure Youth Camp 2023. After the talk we had, I was motivated to apply to Faulkner to receive a Christian-minded education. I am very thankful for Faulkner. It has changed my life.” “I choose to be an SLP to help the population that I am an advocate for. From the first moment that I realized something was different about my family, I realized I wanted to help other families in similar situations. The emotional, mental, and physical toll that comes along with having family members who are special is not for the faint of heart. When choosing a career, I wanted to make a positive impact in people’s lives that need it the most. My youngest sister is 14 years younger than me. From the time that she started therapy, I attended the sessions and saw and felt firsthand the overwhelming joy when my little sister said my name for the first time. Ecstatic was an understatement. I wanted to give other families similar experiences. I can’t help but to think back to Paul when he wrote Ephesians. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork , created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advanced for us to do” (NIV.) This verse confused me for most of my life. It was hard to understand how God knew what I was going to do when I did not know. After my experience with the field of speech pathology, I knew exactly what the Lord had planned for me.” Why do you want to be an SLP?

“When I was researching graduate schools, I felt as if Faulkner's program fell into my lap. You could say that it was sent from God, even. When I read the following on Faulkner's website, I knew this was where I needed to pursue my education, "The on-ground and online MA program, as well as the on-ground MS SLP program, are founded on the belief that there is no limit to what God can accomplish when men and women listen to His calling and allow Him to work through them." Then, when I was accepted, I knew it was a no brainer.”

partnering in alabama for training in healthcare
Who:
The Partnering in Alabama for Training in Healthcare (PATH) initiative is a collaborative effort between Faulkner University College of Health Sciences and the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) . This partnership is dedicated to delivering hands-on training to Home Health nurses and Emergency Preparedness personnel through advanced simulation-based education . In addition to ADPH, this initiative aims to bolster preparedness among providers for the Alabama National Guard, Children’s Rehab Services, AL State Department of Education, Emergency Management Agency, Hyundai, Haynes Life Flight, and other organizations where proper training is essential. The goal of PATH is to provide FREE education, training, and expanded job opportunities for healthcare workers across the state by establishing an interprofessional simulation training site for healthcare-related skills and emergency preparedness at the Faulkner University College of Health Sciences Simulation Center.
What: Why: Alabama has a large, well-known disparity in healthcare access, especially in rural areas where there is little to no access to advanced simulation technology that is beneficial to train and prepare healthcare providers. Public health emergencies such as disasters, disease outbreaks, and other medical events happen unexpectedly. Functioning in a constant state of preparedness can save lives. Through planning and training in medical response scenarios, providers and communities as a whole can be better prepared and able to take care of their constituents. Research shows that hands-on training improves provider confidence, which in turn leads to improved patient outcomes, ultimately leading to decreased healthcare costs . The PATH partnership will advance the healthcare industry in Alabama by addressing workforce shortages, improving access to care, and enhancing medical preparedness through advanced simulation training. The project aligns with both regional and state economic development strategies, contributing to workforce development, promoting innovation, improving healthcare access in underserved areas, and supporting long-term economic growth in Alabama.
The Alabama Department of Public Health is very grateful to have developed this partnership with the Faulkner College of Health Sciences. The PATH program provides invaluable training opportunities for many ADPH employees, including nursing and preparedness staff members. We are fortunate to have access to this initiative.” Scott Harris MD, MPH, FACP, FIDSA, State Health Officer Alabama Department of Public Health Innovators in Training!

We seek to extend the healing ministry of Jesus through compassionate, quality rehabilitative services, while training students to become competent Christ-like healthcare professionals. Clinic Mission Statement
“Faulkner has an amazing group of therapists and students whose passion for helping others exceeds other programs we have attended. I can’t imagine what we do or where we would be without this amazing program. “There’s something about this place. Something about the instructors and the students. My adult son has autism and had a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Because of his poor prognosis, I could not get him in any therapy centers at all. We knew he could do something as he was regaining cognitive skills, but he had no language. One of the local clinics I tried to take my son to could not help him, but it happened to be a Faulkner professor that said “ I know the place where your son needs to go, ” and she sent us to the Faulkner Clinic. Two and half weeks and my son began whispering and communicating. I came home from work one day and Wesley was in the hallway at home and said “Hey!” This was the first time I felt my son Wesley was being seen for Wesley.” Maria Sahonic, mother of Wesley
“I come to Faulkner clinic to learn life skills. I receive Occupational therapy and counseling services each week. It is awesome and cool and I really enjoy it. I will keep coming here till I go to heaven.” John Hudak, clinic patient
