Why Faulkner CHS? Isabella Thompson SLP Online Cohort 7

“When choosing what universities to apply to Faulkner stood out to me because of the Christian environment that encouraged me, not discouraged me. I was able to meet the President of the University during Exposure Youth Camp 2023. After the talk we had, I was motivated to apply to Faulkner to receive a Christian-minded education. I am very thankful for Faulkner. It has changed my life.” “I choose to be an SLP to help the population that I am an advocate for. From the first moment that I realized something was different about my family, I realized I wanted to help other families in similar situations. The emotional, mental, and physical toll that comes along with having family members who are special is not for the faint of heart. When choosing a career, I wanted to make a positive impact in people’s lives that need it the most. My youngest sister is 14 years younger than me. From the time that she started therapy, I attended the sessions and saw and felt firsthand the overwhelming joy when my little sister said my name for the first time. Ecstatic was an understatement. I wanted to give other families similar experiences. I can’t help but to think back to Paul when he wrote Ephesians. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork , created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advanced for us to do” (NIV.) This verse confused me for most of my life. It was hard to understand how God knew what I was going to do when I did not know. After my experience with the field of speech pathology, I knew exactly what the Lord had planned for me.” Why do you want to be an SLP?

“When I was researching graduate schools, I felt as if Faulkner's program fell into my lap. You could say that it was sent from God, even. When I read the following on Faulkner's website, I knew this was where I needed to pursue my education, "The on-ground and online MA program, as well as the on-ground MS SLP program, are founded on the belief that there is no limit to what God can accomplish when men and women listen to His calling and allow Him to work through them." Then, when I was accepted, I knew it was a no brainer.”
