23 JULY
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. This occurred a little over a year after the American Revolution initially began. But it was a vital step to help our troops assert their independence and give them something to fight for that was far greater than anyone could ever imagine — freedom. Don’t Let Life Pass You By LET FREEDOM RING!
Then, in October 1781, the war came to an end when General Cornwallis was surrounded, forcing him to surrender at Yorktown, Virginia. On Sept. 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed and made official: America was independent — people were free!
“That’s the beauty of freedom; it’s not
Additionally, on the March to a Million podcast, I talk with other attorneys, financial and tax advisors, and other professionals to help listeners get the guidance they need so they can begin to analyze what freedom looks like for them. We also share strategies others can use to perform, build, and protect their liberties.
something you can put into a category or box. It’s something that’s unique to you and your circumstances.”
But what exactly is freedom?
Freedom can take on many forms; for the U.S. at the time, it meant that we won the right to govern ourselves and not live under another nation’s rules. But freedom — on an individual level — also has several different meanings. We have freedom of speech, the right to protect ourselves, the right to question the government and leaders, the right to spend and save money, the freedom to travel, and so much more. So, in other words, we all have our own version of freedom — based on our perceptions and where we’re at in our lives. For example, being free and independent for you could be buying or paying off a home, paying all your debt, creating an emergency fund, living on your own, being able to rely on yourself, having the ability to work, or being able to care for yourself and your family. As you can see, freedom is what you make of it — you get to decide what it looks like. You get the choice to make it what you want it to be. I think that’s the beauty of freedom; it’s not something you can put into a category or box. It’s something that’s unique to you and your circumstances. For me, freedom is having the ability to always expand and grow my knowledge and serve others by sharing the information I retain. In my March to a Million, I aim to positively impact one million people — I want to equip others with the necessary tools and resources so they can exercise their freedoms.
But these aren’t the only ways we exercise our freedom — you do it every hour each day! How you spend your time, engage with others, and live your life is
how you use your freedom. Therefore, be sure you’re living every day to the fullest! I understand how tempting it can be to try to become time travelers so you can see what the future holds for you — perhaps you’re waiting for something to happen so you can then start doing things you enjoy or bettering yourself. Some of you may think that as soon as you reach a life goal, like retirement, you can start living your life the way you want.
But why can’t you start right now?
Don’t let life pass you by and wait for things to get better or go as planned — life is full of uncertainties! So, while planning and taking preventive measures are essential, you want to live in the moment simultaneously. Don’t just look at the finish line — enjoy the journey and everything that comes along with it! This is the best way to honor, celebrate, and practice freedom.
Here’s to you and your independence!

How long have you been working at the law firm, and what do you do here? I started working for DuPont & Blumenstiel in 2017 at the front desk. Since then, I have transitioned to working more directly with the attorneys and clients on estate plans. My day usually consists of many meetings with our clients. I help out with all aspects of the estate planning process, from the very first meeting to the signings. I’m also responsible for many back-office duties including HR, accounting, and staff training. What is the most rewarding part of your job? I find it very rewarding to be able to help families every day that are having a hard time. Sometimes people don’t like to come here because they think estate planning is scary. Other times, especially JULIA DUPONT, CLIENT EXPERIENCE OFFICER STAFF SPOTLIGHT:
during probate litigation, people come to us after a tragedy has happened in their family. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to support them in whatever situation they might be in. What would you say to someone hesitant about creating an estate plan? I would say just get it done. A lot of times people are hesitant because they don’t want to think about what happens when they die. But it only takes a couple hours
of your time to gain that relief of knowing that you have your documents in place should anything happen to you. It’s one less thing your family has to worry about. I also want to let our clients know that there are many employers these days that offer legal services as part of your employee benefits. If that is something you have, I recommend that you take advantage of it. You can usually get a whole estate plan done for very low cost to you.

“The recession is coming! The recession is coming!” While we are currently not in a recession, bank failures, inflation, rising interest rates, and the stock market rapidly changing have caused the recession bells to start ringing. And we’re certain that Paul Revere would be yelling on horseback! Because of the current uncertainties in our economy, many have wondered if they should be investing right now. No investment is recession-proof. However, some tend to perform better than others. Here are three investments you can consider during a recession. HEALTH CARE AND CONSUMER STAPLES These kinds of investments tend to perform well even during a recession because they’re items we use and need regularly. Therefore, you can consider investing in biotech and pharmaceutical companies, household goods, and technology. These are considered “defensive stocks” and are great when experiencing bear markets and recessions. LARGE-CAP STOCKS If you want to invest in individual stocks, investing in large, big- name companies that will make it through the recession and thrive 3 Stocks You Can Consider Should You Invest During a Recession?
is your best option. A free stock screener is one of the best ways to find these companies. You want to find businesses with low debt, credibility, strong balance sheets, and positive cash flow. DIVIDEND INVESTMENTS With dividend stocks, every shareholder will receive a portion of the company’s profit, depending on the number of shares you own. Furthermore, while you can use your profit for your own needs, dividend stocks are popular because you can use your earnings and reinvest — if the value of your stock is down, reinvested dividends have fewer risks. When looking for a dividend stock, look for companies that consistently pay or increase dividends. While it can be scary to invest during a recession, it doesn’t have to be — if you know what to look for. Before you invest in anything, it’s vital that you seek assistance from a financial advisor who can help you outline your goals and help you find an investment that will fit your needs. Please contact your friends at DuPont Wealth Solutions with all your investment questions and concerns. We will gladly assist you and find a strategy that works best for you.

Discover Your Ideal Seaside Retreat One of the most important decisions anyone will make regarding their vacation is where they stay. This is especially true for summer Here are a few things to consider before booking a beach rental for your vacation. FIND THE PERFECT BEACH RENTAL
the beach and the ocean worth the cost, or is one without quite the view (but less expensive) still acceptable? You’ll also need to examine the surrounding area to ensure it has everything you need. If you don’t want to drive much once you settle in, choose a rental within walking distance of the beach, shops, and restaurants. THE EXTRAS You should consider a couple of other things when booking a beach rental. If you plan to bring your pets, ensure the rental you book is pet-friendly. It’s also worth investigating if the beach itself is dog-friendly, as bringing your furry friend to the beach can make the vacation even more enjoyable. Many rentals also provide beach toys, body boards, and more so you don’t have to spend money buying or renting them at shops. Read through the rental description, and don’t hesitate to ask the owner any questions.

are children coming? You will want to pick a rental to fit your family’s needs. If your traveling party is small, a condo or apartment overlooking the beach will likely work. If your family is large or you’re worried about the kids being too loud, consider a single-family beach house instead. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION You probably already know what beach to visit, but choosing a specific unit can be challenging. Is a rental with a grand view of
