and business center, a swim- ming pool, a playground, and a dog park, creating a vibrant, connected, and community- focused living environment. The Refuge project reflects a strong partnership with the city and a shared commitment to the safety and well-being of the community. Lawson is grateful for the City of Richmond’s support in con- structing new sidewalks along Snead Rd. and will continue these improvements from the development site to J.L. Francis Elementary School. The project will receive

partial funding through the City of Richmond’s Affordable Housing Performance Grant Program, which supports developments that expand housing options for working families and residents with limited incomes. “This approval means a lot to us,” said Austin Pittman , Lawson director of Develop- ment. “We’re grateful to City Council and the local commu- nity for their trust, and we’re excited to expand our commit- ment to deliver much-needed, high-quality affordable housing to Richmond families.” MAREJ

The project’s intentional design preserves key environ- mental features, integrating a nature trail and boardwalk that allow residents to enjoy the

site’s undisturbed green space. Residents will also have access to a range of high-quality ame- nities, including a clubhouse with a modern fitness center

Refuge, situated on ten acres, will feature thoughtfully designed one-, two-, and three- bedroom apartments across six three-story buildings. The development prioritizes long- term affordability while deliv- ering modern design, features, and amenities comparable to market-rate apartments. Matan partners with Building Futures Project Matan employees collaborated with residents of Las Delicias. FREDERICK, MD — A team of Matan Companies employees recently travelled to El Salvador for a week- long service trip in partner- ship with Building Futures Project, a nonprofit organiza - tion dedicated to empowering underserved Latin American communities through critical nutritional, educational, and housing support. During the trip, Matan em- ployees collaborated closely with residents of Las Deli- cias—a community in San Juan Opico near San Salva- dor—and the Building Futures Project team to make a mean- ingful impact. Together, they painted a local daycare center and helped repair and enhance a resident’s home. Beyond the construction efforts, the Matan team actively partici- pated in community outreach initiatives, including serving hot lunches to local families, delivering food to homebound elderly individuals, and con- necting with local children through recreational Matan Companies is in the process of planning another trip with Building Futures Project in February 2026.
