Goin’ Back 3 - A potted history of UK telecoms To set the scene, Figure 2.1 below is a graphic illustrating the author’s view on the evolution of the UK telecoms market from the early 70s to circa 2020 and note that this summary excludes the development of the Internet within the UK.
The paper is structured as follows: n An introductory (and a brief) history of the UK telecoms market (and note that the author has been active in the telecoms industry since 1971, and would suggest has some standing) n The growth of the altnets n The need for “modelling” to assist in any financial analysis for comparative purposes - will cover both financial and organisational models n An introduction to the Neutral Access Network (NAN)
