M iracle Lives of China B y R osalind and J onathan G oforth The lives of these two missionaries are themselves miracles of the grace of God. But the life stories of some of the Chi nese of Manchuria, among whom Dr. and Mrs. Goforth have faithfully labored since 1888, are likewise extraordinary. Each instance cited in the book is full of the thrill of a mighty spiritual victory achieved through the ministry of these consecrated, Spirit-filled missionaries. Gov ernment officials, generals, scholars, poets, and the common people alike have been won to Christ and have been enabled to give potent testimonies to the gospel’s power. 157 pages. Harper & Bros. Cloth. Price $1.50. T h e Law of Moral and Spiritual P enalty B y W. S. H ottel The author shows that the law that like produces like, or the law of sowing and reaping, is operative in the lives of Chris tian people as well as in unbelievers. He deals with such propositions as these: The penalty of not having a heart to receive the truth and the inclination to value it; the punishment for not appreciating the knowledge of God ; and the result of de ceiving others. The points made and the illustrations given should arouse Chris tians to alertness. 26 pages. Union Gos pel Press, Cleveland, Ohio. Paper. Seeing th e S to ry of th e Bible B y M yer P earlman The author is a member of the fac ulty of the Central Bible Institute. “Air plane views” of the Bible constitute the central message of this book. Graphs and diagrams are used to illustrate the con tents of the entire Bible and of separate books and doctrines. The work is clev erly done and could be used effectively in teaching. 124 pages. Gospel Pub. House, Springfield, Mo.

habitants. This book is an admirable grouping of such stories, selected from the many occurrences which make up the life of a missionary. 147 pages. Chris tian Book Room, Box 1723, Shanghai, China. Paper. Price 60 cents. T h e Rom ance of Sacred Song B y D avid J. B eattie This is a book worthy of the subject. It tells of the early days of sacred song, of the pioneers of English hymnology, of how we got our gospel songs, and of how some famous hymns were written. Other interesting historical and personal refer ences are added. Care has been taken to make all the statements authentic. The literary quality of the book is high. 232 pages. Marshall, Morgan & Scott, Ltd. Cloth. Price $3.00. St. Paul, th e H erald of C hristianity B y X enophon P. W ilfley The late Ex-Senator Wilfley was a statesman, a lawyer, and an ardent Bible student. He gave much study to the life of Paul, the great Christian lawyer, pre senting his findings, which are gathered together in this book, before a large Bible class in St. Louis. The author’s legal training enabled him to write illuminat- ingly on such vital subjects as the rela tion between the trial of Jesus and Paul’s ministry. The book is a worthy contribu tion to the literature concerning the great apostle. 267 pages. Cokesbury Press. Cloth. Price $2.00. T he R est of F aith a n d O th er Studies B y D. M. M c I ntyre The author is the principal of the Bible Training Institute of Glasgow. Some of the chapter titles of the book are: Yield Yourselves unto God; Kept by the Power of God; Let Thy Garments be Always White; For the Sake of the Name. High ly spiritual are these interpretations. They are written in a limpid, musical English that is itself essentially poetic. Richness and restfulness mark the faith to which expression is here given. 148 pages. Mar shall, Morgan & Scott, Ltd. Cloth. Price $1.50. _____ In th e Flam e of Russia’s Revolution B y N. I. S aloff -A stakhoff This account of the atrocities commit ted by the revolutionists between 1917 and 1926 is given by an evangelist who, dur ing that perilous time, was fearlessly preaching to his countrymen. Many of the Christians were ruthlessly murdered. An entire missionary party was merciless ly mutilated in a barn. The many de liverances from death, with which the book abounds, read like the Acts of the Apostles. The evangelists received their would-be assassins with hymns, prayer, and the gospel of salvation, and many a time hearts were softened, and the fatal blow was averted. The courage of the Christian workers, which shines through out this whole account, is God-inspired. 304 pages. Published by the author, 164 Second Ave., New York, N. Y. Cloth. Price $2.25.

New A nalytical Indexed Bible Edited by J. R. K aye There are many striking features of this new Bible. The text is the Author ized or King James Version of 1611. At points where this translation is obscure, the words preferred by the American Re vised Version are inserted in parentheses. The simplicity of this method is apparent. Only the words essential to the correct understanding are inserted. Similarly, the references to parallel passages, which or dinarily are given in the margin or at the bottom of the page, are in this Bible printed between the verses; that is, fol lowing the verse affected. A valuable in dex to proper names is given in the first part of the book. Among other helps are a topical index and a concordance. Each book of the Bible is preceded by an intro duction and by an analytical chart. Maps abound. The point of view is conserva tive. The material is trustworthy and us able. Mechanically, the book is a model of good printing. Further information, supplied by the Buxton-Westerman Co., will be found on the inside back cover of this issue of T he K ing ’ s B usiness . Ap proximately 2,000 pages. John A. Dick son Pub. Co., Chicago.
