 After 19 April employers must make any corrections to a 2013 – 14 FPS on an Earlier Year Update (EYU). If further changes are needed, employers can correct an EYU by sending HMRC another EYU with the corrected information. For full guidance, go to the Correcting payroll errors – previous year webpage. Employers can send an EYU even if they haven’t made a final FPS submission.

3. Correcting Employer Payment Summaries (EPS)

Employers can make corrections to an Employer EPS by sending another EPS to report the correct total year-to-date figures for all recovered payments within that tax year. Employers have up to 6 years from when they sent in their original EPS to do this.

4. Electronic Message Updates – keeping employers up-to-date

HMRC is updating the Generic Notification Service messages for 2014 to 2015.

Percentage Threshold Scheme ends allowing for the introduction of the Health and Work Service From 6 April 2014 employers can no longer claim for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) paid under the Percentage Threshold Scheme (PTS) for the current tax year. Employers will have until the end of the 2015/16 tax year to claim PTS for any SSP paid before the end of the 2013/14 tax year.

The funding released from the abolition of PTS will be reinvested into the new Health and Work Service , which will be introduced in late 2014.

Form P9X – Tax codes to use from 6 April 2014 If HMRC hasn’t sent you a tax code for an employee, employers should use the code on form P9X, along with the employee’s tax code from the previous tax year’s payroll record. Reminder for employers operating Appendix 6 arrangements From 6 April 2014, Appendix 6 employers should enter A - Notional payment: Payment to Expat by third party or overseas employer in the Late Reporting Reason field on full payment submissions to avoid warning letters. Toolkits to help minimise common errors HMRC has published the updated Expenses and Benefits from Employment Toolkit in addition to the National Insurance Contributions and Statutory Payments Toolkit. The purpose of the toolkits is to assist agents when completing their clients' returns and forms. Employment Related Securities Bulletin The fifteenth Employment-Related Securities Bulletin providing information and updates on developments relating to employment-related securities, including the tax-advantaged employee share schemes has been published. Employment Related Securities – register, self certify and file online From 6 April 2014 you must tell HMRC about your company share schemes and other employment-related securities arrangements using the new Employment Related Securities (ERS) online service . The updated guidance tells you how to do this. NICs regulations in respect of various matters have been published Regulations and associated Explanatory Memorandum have been published and came into effect on 6 April 2014. The subject matter includes penalties made under Section 56 to the Finance Act 2009, Extra Statutory Concession A4 and Real Time Information.
