A million businesses now signed up to HMRC Your Tax Account

More than a million small businesses have signed up to the HMRC online tax account – Your Tax Account.
HMRC have explained that:
Launched in May 2014, Your Tax Account will, over time, enable small businesses to access everything they need to manage their tax affairs in a single, secure, online space. HMRC has worked with business customers to ensure it reflects their needs and is user-friendly. The core of the current service is a personalised homepage from which businesses can access:
links to the key transactions they need to complete (for Self Assessment, Corporation Tax, Pay As You Earn for employers and VAT)
an overview of their key tax records a summary of their current liabilities direct links to information and guidance, plus interactive tools links to payment information and how to pay.
More services will be added as the product develops.
Genuine HMRC contact and recognising phishing emails

Fraudulent emails to obtain personal information are unfortunately common and as such HMRC has published updated guidance.
Phishing is the fraudulent act of emailing a person in order to obtain their personal/financial information such as passwords and credit card or bank account details. These emails often include a link to a bogus website encouraging you to enter your personal details.
This guidance explains how to recognise genuine contact from HMRC, and how to tell when an email is phishing/bogus.
HMRC sees biggest digital Self Assessment ever

HMRC received 10.24 million Self Assessment returns this year, 85.5% of which were sent online.
HMRC oversaw the biggest digital Self Assessment event ever this year, receiving 10.24 million tax returns by midnight on 31 January.
A record 85.5% of these were sent online, with the busiest days for filing coming on 30 and 31 January, when HMRC received 980,000 returns. The busiest hour was between 1pm and 2pm on 30 January, when almost 50,000 returns were received – 830 per minute. The busiest hour on deadline day was between 11 am and midday, when almost 32,000 returns were received – 530 per minute. HMRC also answered 95% of calls first time on deadline day.
