Accelerated payments

HMRC have now published detailed guidance on Accelerated Payments and Follower Notices, to support the new anti-avoidance legislation included in Finance Act 2014.
The new legislation can apply to most taxes administered by HMRC, including income tax and national insurance contributions. The guidance now published explains how the new legislation will apply in specific circumstances.
Basic PAYE Tools for the 2014-2015 tax year

HM Revenue and Customs' (HMRC's) Basic PAYE Tools product for the 2014/2015 tax year (version 14.0.14168) is now available.
HMRC has announced that this is an update to the existing version, rather than a separate download, so existing users do not need to go to the HMRC website to get the update. If employers have the automatic updates switched on, and their computer is connected to the internet when they open Basic PAYE Tools, they will be automatically advised that the software update is now available. The new version of Basic PAYE Tools allows users to amend or correct an employee payment and add a mistimed payment. The User Guide has been updated to reflect these changes.
CIPP survey - Call for evidence on remuneration practices

HM Treasury (HMT) has published a call for evidence on remuneration practices. The CIPP’s policy team have issued a survey to gather evidence from members before responding. HMT has published a call for evidence on remuneration practices . The CIPP’s policy team will be formally responding to this document. HMT has made it clear that although it wants to understand current and potential future remuneration practices, this document does not contain any policy proposals. It is vital the payroll profession responds to this call for evidence, as future policy decisions to be made by the government, especially around tax and NI, may come from the evidence supplied. Please help your policy team by completing this survey which closes at midnight, 29 August 2014. The survey should take no more than fifteen to twenty minutes to complete.
