Agent Online Self Serve will improve the online authorisation process – until it arrives we’ll continue to look for ways to improve the service, so you can start acting for new clients as quickly as possible. Check out the HMRC website for turnaround times for both the online and paper agent authorisation process. You can also use the Agent Account Manager service to progress chase a 64-8 that hasn’t been processed within published timelines.

New HMRC webinars for tax agents and advisers

HMRC have published the first in a proposed series of webinars for tax agents and advisers, many of which will no doubt be equally applicable to payroll bureaux and agents.

The first of HMRC’s new webinars for agents and advisers is about Penalties for inaccuracies in documents and returns . The HMRC announcement mentions that:

“It’s pre-recorded, so you can view it now, or at any time that suits you.

We’re also in the final stages of developing live webinars for tax agents and advisers. These are interactive, and give you the opportunity to ask HMRC questions as you go along. We hope to bring these to you over the summer – more information on dates and how to register will be available soon.

HMRC have issued updated information about Agent Online Self Serve and other digital services.

The attached Briefing Note explains what has been happening and what is planned over the next few months, about Agent Online Self Serve and research activities and testing of user journeys for identity assurance with authority management for businesses and agents. . HMRC also want to hear from you if you are involved in developing bespoke software applications for sending submissions to HMRC. Please see the attachment to contact them with your details if you are acting as a software developer so that they can keep you up to date with changes.

The note also brings readers up to date with the pilot for Your Tax Account and Digital SA and gives information about the new PAYE service for employees.
