Malaysia’s transition towards a digital economy through the national smart city agenda has been supported by the state and is highly demanded over the years. Many entities, both public and private are pushing for targeted strategies based on the existing systems and opportunities for future development. The transition to becoming a smart city does not happen overnight, and there are many steps to be taken into consideration. A smart city can be developed for both existing and new township area. In case of smart city development in Malaysia, the new township area which develop into smart city are Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Iskandar Malaysia.
