High Impact Project in Melaka

Moving towards smart city, Melaka has highlighted few high impact projects in its budget allocation:

RM20 million has been set aside for projects related to food security, tourism, and environmental preservation and conservation, including flood mitigation measures.

Commitment in publishing GHG emissions inventory using Harmonized Emissions Analysis Tool (HEAT+) as part of initiative among 100 Resilient Cities (100 RC) network.

Continues investment in port, rail and road infrastructure as stated in Melaka State Structure Plan 2035.

Improved digital infrastructure to attracts big companies to operate in Melaka such as Honda Melaka and Composites Technology Research Malaysia.

Melaka was listed in the world’s top 8 travel destinations to visit in the year 2022 which directly increase tourism businesses.

Improvement of Melaka’s Online Mapping and Geographic Information System (MeLGIS) application assists in monitoring and provides land use of geospatial information to state government agencies.

Increase housing ownership initiatives using a well-established low cost and affordable housing scheme. The low-cost housing range between RM35,000 – RM40,000, while affordable housing price does not exceed RM250,000.

The Melaka-Waterfront Economic Zone (M-WEZ) project that has potential to strengthen Melaka as a tourism-based state with the integration of new features such as an international tourism centre, a smart city-based commercial centre, Industrial Revolution 4.0, a marina logistics centre, and a modern lifestyle cultural centre.

The highlighted projects have portrayed Melaka’s commitment in transforming its economic, social and governance landscape towards a sustainable Smart City. These current projects combined with the strategies and action plans outlined in this blueprint, will provide Melaka with a new engine of economic growth and game changers. This indirectly will create new jobs, more business opportunities, and improve people’s well-being which remarks Melaka journey towards a sustainable Smart State over the next 15 years. However, in order to achieve more, Melaka’s urban challenges must be addressed. In the context of this blueprint, issues and challenges were derived from stakeholder’s feedback and highlighted through the seven smart city components.
