CURRENT SITUATION Based on the result of the analysis, there are a lot of improvements needed especially on how to optimise on the availability of technological solution as Melaka is a car-oriented city with a low density and fragmented urban form that reduce physical proximity between where people live and work. GAPS • Readiness to adopt and adapt technology like electric vehicles, • Shared services for first and last mile and its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. • Availability of funding for such initiatives. OPPORTUNITIES It is important to invest in digital solutions for port, rail, and cargo airport. This will provide the benefits and positive impact on future smart economic growth in Melaka.

SMART COMMUNITY

CURRENT SITUATION The overall well-being of communities in Melaka is still hindered by inadequate inclusive provision of facilities and services such as healthcare, education, and lifestyle. As a whole, the degree of digital literacy capability is significant in shaping a smart community. GAPS • Limited opportunity on program and platform on life-long learning • A limited knowledge among the community members on digital literacy that presents negative impacts • The relatively lower level of readiness of the community to participate in the digital environment. OPPORTUNITIES It is crucial to explore the readiness prospects base on exposure, knowledge of know-how and lastly the ability to used information. The capacity building will not only optimize the opportunity for the communities to benefit from the digital transformation but also in turn offer a pool of local talents to contribute to the digital economic growth. Commitment on long term funding to organize programs and campaigns on the importance of technology adaption especially among aged groups is crucial.

SMART LIVING

CURRENT SITUATION The analysis positively indicates a high feasibility of implementing the smart living strategies. The overall medium to medium-high income level is enjoyed as well as the individual modern lifestyle which have been highly influenced by the global trends due to the vast exposure to the global quality of life is believed to significantly contribute to this finding. GAPS • Skills and talents development through variety of learning platforms. • Affordability of the public services and facilities which include internet access, public transport, home and health services to enhance the overall quality of life. OPPORTUNITIES Creating a sense of safe and secure environment in a city is crucial and equally important in providing services related to health, education, and lifestyle to all. The readiness and financial availability for more surveillance CCTV installations in all Melaka’s municipalities is needed as well as investments for building public facilities such as school, clinics and community centre.
