SMART ENVIRONMENT
In conclusion, shifting the development direction towards smart cities is the state priority for Melaka in enhancing its sustainability, livability, and resiliency by 2035, in line with the vision set in PSMJ2035. A series of initiatives have been carried out to stimulate the economic growth, encourage DDI and FDI, upgrade infrastructure, as well as human capital development at state and at community levels. Ultimately, investing into smart and advanced technologies must be prioritized by the Melaka State Government to address the challenges of urbanisation in the horizon and transform Melaka into a vibrant interconnected space which operates at optimum efficiency. Inter-agencies coordination in open data and data sharing, formulation of new policy and regulation with effective enforcement, empowerment and capacity building for future skills and talents among the locals, transparent and efficient administrative system, as well as investments through partnerships must be integrated and well-coordinated. CURRENT SITUATION The outcome of analysis indicates a high success rate of implementing the smart environment strategies. This reveals the continuous proactive role played by the State Government to collaborate with key stakeholders to promote Melaka as a smart, green, and sustainable city. Several initiatives have been carried out in addressing the key environmental challenges in the state. GAPS • The policies and regulations for enforcement which may not be able to address the current and future environmental issues • The role of technological solutions and talents in addressing environmental issues and assisting in resource protection is still underexplored. OPPORTUNITIES Melaka need to establish an adequate mechanism for resource protection, and environmental hazard mitigation and adaptation especially those that are due to the climate changes at macro scales and human activities at the micro scale.
