Mike Hewitt is the Founder of Breakwater Technology, a specialist advisory partner, his focus areas are Energy System Digitisation, AI-native transformation, connectivity-enabled innovation and leadership in complex infrastructure systems. A 30-year technology veteran, Mike previously served as Chief Technology Officer of Smart DCC, where he led the digital evolution of the UK’s national smart metering and data communications platform, supporting over 32 million homes and businesses. At Breakwater, Mike works with Boards, Infrastructure Operators and Technology leaders to redesign how critical systems are operated in an era of AI, decentralised energy, and cyber-physical risk. His work centres on applying artificial intelligence, secure connectivity, and data-driven orchestration to enable smarter, more resilient electricity grids, shifting from static infrastructure to adaptive, verifiable and consumer-centric energy systems. Mike is a recognised thought leader on the future of AI-enabled infrastructure, bridging strategy, regulation and real-world delivery to unlock system-wide change.
Rich Welsh Chairman and Co-Founder, Volustor
Rich is Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of Volustor, a SaaS platform providing workflow, asset management and visualisation for 3D scanning, spatial data and digital replicas in media, gaming, metaverse and industrial applications. Volustor has been forged in the furnace of high end Hollywood movie production and is a unique solution for volumetric media workflow and asset management. Rich is President of SMPTE, the global society of media professionals, technologists and engineers. In this role, he chairs the Executive Committee and Board of Governors who set the strategic direction of the organisation, and fosters collaboration and education among its members. Rich is also an investor and advisor with Hallstone Ventures, a Silicon Valley and Hollywood seed-stage fund focused on AI and advanced technology startups in media. Rich holds a Doctor of Technology (HC), and a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Media Technology from Solent University. He has previously held senior roles at Dolby Laboratories, Technicolor and Deluxe Entertainment. Rich founded SaaS platform Sundog Media Toolkit in 2013 which was acquired by Deluxe in 2021.
Emma Young Senior Director, AI Production Technology, Deluxe
An Emerging Technology & Media Innovation Specialist with 20+ years of experience across broadcast, AI, immersive media and production, Emma works at the intersection of storytelling and technology - turning emerging tech into bold new tools, intelligent workflows, and future-facing audience experiences. As Senior Director for AI Production Technology at Deluxe, she leads strategy and engagement for Generative AI adoption to transform studio production workflows and drive business growth. Emma holds a PhD in Digital Innovation and has built a career driving change where R&D, production and media technology converge. A frequent keynote speaker on AI, immersive media, and content futures; a judge for the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards; a Steering Group member for the Audio Mostly conference; and an industry advisor to Lancaster University’s School of Computing. Emma is also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, and served a 2.5 year tenure as Chair for BBC Women in STEM.
