UROLOGY RANKED 5 TH IN THE NATION Skilled in open, endoscopic and robotic urologic surgery, the fellowship-trained urology surgeons at Riley Children’s Health are internationally recognized for their expertise in treating complex urologic conditions. Our surgeons are partners in multidisciplinary programs to aid in managing multifaceted patient needs. We use data-based performance metrics to continuously improve quality of care and to assist in helping elevate quality of life for patients with challenging conditions.

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

Funded by the National Institutes of Health ■ R03 award: A patient-centered approach to urinary incontinence in adults with spina bifida ■ K23 award: A patient-centered approach to urinary incontinence and quality of life in children and adolescents with spina bifida Other research studies ■ Assessing alternative surgical therapies for children with neurogenic bladder and bladder exstrophy ■ Evaluating the use and disuse of continent catheterizable channels ■ Studying long-term outcomes of men with hypospadias corrected in childhood ■ Evaluating safety and efficacy of nephrostomy tubes in neonates ■ Studying decisional regret for childhood surgeries

PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS

Specialized programs Comprehensive Transitional Care Program ■ One of the few programs in the nation offering transitional care for pediatric patients with complex urologic conditions as they progress into adulthood. Complex Voiding Dysfunction Center ■ Physical therapy and operative interventions, such as sacral neuromodulation are used to assist in treating voiding dysfunction. Fertility Preservation Program ■ In collaboration with Riley oncologists, we offer access to fertility preservation methods, including sperm banking and testicular tissue cryopreservation for children with cancer. Pediatric Urology Education Program ■ For primary care providers: Quarterly updates on common urologic conditions ■ For patients/families: Monthly, no-cost nocturnal enuresis education seminars Our team is a partner in multidisciplinary programs for patients with congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract, kidney stones and complex colorectal malformations.
